Igorrr ‘Spirituality and Distortion’ Tour 2022 (Tavastia, Helsinki) – 25/04/2022

Finally! Igorrr made it to Finland for a show! Clearly I wasn’t the only one awaiting their arrival eagerly with a completely sold out Tavastia. Sadly, Drumcorps couldn’t make it all the way here as one of the support acts, but at least we still had the wackadoodle that is Otto Von Schirach to warm us up for the musical orgasm that would be Igorrr

Otto Von Schirach

On my way to the venue I had checked out some of the work of Otto Von Schirach, but had still no idea what to expect. What we got was a mentally insane hour or so of beats, weird samples and noises with frantic vocals of a man with a level of hyperactivity that is almost tiring. And still somehow the music was extremely catchy and simply heaps of fun. Otto brought some Miami sunshine to Finland and tried to sell us his theories on every human having dinosaur DNA to get us to dance like a pterodactyl and having seen the light on an island in the Bermuda triangle where he learned the power of the circle. It was really an out of this world kind of experience that ended with bleeps and boops telling Otto the aliens were here and it was time to go. Oh, and show the triangle!

Igorrr

It’s been 5 long years since I discovered Igorrr with ‘Savage Sinusoid’ and now our paths finally crossed… You can say that this has been one of my most anticipated shows for a while now and the expectations were high. While I was a slight bit disappointed I wasn’t getting to see Igorrr in its iteration I got to know the project with since both the vocalist were replaced with new female vocalist Aphrodite Patoulidou and male vocalist JB Le Bail (Svart Crown). But any doubts I might have had, were immediately blown away by the impressive performances of both. Aphrodite as the female character brought the right amount of manic to the stage and a vocal range going from classical soprano to bone-chilling screams and wails, while JB as the male character had the menacing stage presence I was hoping for with deep harsh vocals to match. Both held their own perfectly and came across as if they’ve always been a part of this project. As soon as the set started until the very end of the show, the sold out venue moved and pulsed to the beats and grooves as if the people there were one big living entity. It’s been a while since I’ve last been at a gig this intense and looking at the wide diversity of people there, it was a rather touching experience. I can’t believe it took me this long to catch Igorrr live, but I promise you I won’t let it take as long in the future. If you haven’t had the chance yet yourselves, don’t hesitate when you get the opportunity, it’s an almost religious experience!
