Beast In Black – Berserker

The five-piece Helsinki based heavy metal band Beast In Black was founded by Anton Kabanen soon after he had parted ways with Battle Beast in 2015. The international line-up consists of Yannis Papadopoulos on vocals, Mate Molnar on bass, Sami Hänninen on drums, Kasperi Heikkinen on guitar and Anton Kabanen on guitar and vocals. By the end of 2015 the band had already played their first gig as an opener for Nightwish without even having their debut album out yet. The making of the album was in progress and it was completed in the summer of 2017. A record deal was made with Nuclear Blast almost immediately after the completion of the album. The debut album titled “Berserker” was released in November 2017 and it continues in the style of Anton’s previously composed works which include the first three Battle Beast albums.

And let it be mentioned that one of the essential themes on this debut is a Japanese manga and anime “Berserker“. The album cover art deserves a special mention as well, since it marks the return of the collaboration between Anton and Roman Ismailov who was the original illustrator and graphic artist for Battle Beast. The time is drawing near. The newborn Beast is back with a vengeance, rising from the abyss with fortitude to spew its unrivaled heavy metal fury all over the world!

Beast In black brings you some typical power metal, the lyrics are typical power metal as well, sometimes a bit cheesy but it doesn’t bother that much. Honestly, I put this on the first time when I worked out and the tempo was kept quite high, which worked great. Next to the high tempo the guitars had a nice variation to them which kept things interesting while the vocals soar over top. If I have to pick one favourite song it would be ‘The Beast In Black‘, the song named after the band (or the song the band was named after). Not only for the music, but for the video as well. I however must admit, it might not be the best band to work out on if you still want to be able to walk the next day, take it from me.

It's a typical power metal album, but the tempo was higher, which seemed to fit quite well together with the vocals.
