Bones – Gate Of Night EP

For a band with the history of Bones, you would expect more releases. But I’m not in this band and I didn’t lead their lives, so what the fuck do I know? Mind yer own business!

Bones break through the hymen once more with death metal as old school as it gets ‘round these parts. After the last Aborted EP, the sound of ‘Gate Of Night‘ is a nice diversion from the beefed up sound of the studio of Pro-tools. As soon as ‘Utterance Beyond Death’ bursts forth like pus from a pimple, the first thing I thought was: AUTOPSY! Same groove, same decay and some filthy well-executed death metal like triggers never happened.

This EP sounds like some Viking buried it with his rotting fish for a year and pulled it out, damp, rotting, utterly gut-wrenching and absolutely delicious if you have the stomach for it. The songs is a fucking solid display of what twisting old school death metal should sound like. ‘Gate Of Night‘ itself is more of a Lovecraftian nightmare that resonates the demon baby of Portal and Sulphur Aeon having a fever. At first it’s the cliché of the song of multiple crash endings, but after more spins, it grows as a haunting vortex of fear and chilling cold.

So hurry up with a full-length, you bastards! I’ll be waiting.

7.6A nasty sounding EP, if ever there was one. But we're all sick of waiting for another full-length. Bring it on, dammit!
