Diamante – American Dream

You can’t miss Diamante Azzura Boveli when she passes by with her sapphire hair. But you can definitely not ignore (nor forget) her once you hear her sing. She is only 24 years old and she’s already crushing it. After her debut album in 2018, touring in America and living the American dream, she made a killer rock album completely independently (without a label).

Lets kick things of with the title track ‘American Dream’. It’s immediately clear this isn’t her first rodeo. Diamante‘s incredible voice can shift perfectly between quiet fragile verses and loud hard rock refrains. One of the earlier released songs ‘Ghost Myself’ even has a music video equally as raw and purposely gritty as the song itself. It’s a great translation on a steady groovy beat of being at war with yourself.

We find a calmer intro with ‘Serves you right’ completely fitting for this emotional rock song. It’s a little less heavy, but still so powerful.

Ever been through relationship struggles of not being “enough” for the other person? Then you would be able to relate to the lyrically strong ‘Obvious’. On the end of the album there is also an acoustic version of ‘Obvious’. Diamante‘s rich vocals pull you right in the song no matter if the instrumentals are empowering bass-heavy or acoustically.

‘Unlovable’ is a piano ballad making you focus even more on the stunning vocals and strong lyrics coming straight from the heart. A more upbeat intro for ‘Wake Up Call’ transforms quickly back in strong hard rock sounds. ‘Unfuck You’ is a funny perspective on passed love. Even a rapped verse in the bridge seems easy for this talented singer.

I think ‘I Love Myself for Hating You’ is easily the most accessible song on the album. The poppy rock vibes coming from upbeat and uplifting instrumentals combined with raspy screams make you easily jump and sing along. And lets not forget the awesome guitar solo as well.

While being on tour with Breaking Benjamin in the USA, Ben Burnley and Diamante recorded a cover of her all-time favorite song since childhood: ‘Iris’ by The Goo Goo Dolls. Over three million views on Youtube kind of proofs this dynamic emotional song is a hit.

And what better way to end such a great album than with a power ballad? One last time the hauntingly strong vocals and mesmerizing instrumentals can touch everyone right in the heart.

Diamante proves she is an extraordinary musician. Her lyrics are so well written almost everyone can find some songs to relate to and connect with. Her wonderful voice draws you in and makes you listen to every single word she sings. I think she has found the right musicians to surround her and bring her stories and feelings to life.

What sucks the most is the fact she was coming to Belgium for the first time to perform at Graspop Metal Meeting. Which is of course cancelled. So we’ll have to wait some more to hear and see her perform live in my region.
