Kveldstimer is a project band formed by guitarist, bassist, and synth Azeruel Woldaeg aka Alex Poole (Chaos Moon, Gardsghastr, Ars Hmu, Häxanu, Azelisassath among others) alongside guitarist, synths and vocalist Collier d'ombre (Ablazen Winds, Azelisassath, Collier d'Ombre, Fervent Diabola, Ghemhamforash) and drummer Seguigo (Häxanu, Azelisassath, and Ghemhamforash). The exceptional quality of the songwriting on the debut full-length album 'The Cursed Oak', released on April 12, 2025, via Bestial Records, has caught my attention, particularly for the outstanding work of the respected members, such as Alex Poole.

After five full years, Swedish death metal purveyors Puteraeon are back with a brand-new album. “Mountains of Madness” is the Swedes' fifth studio album and arguably one of their best. The dark nature of the composition and atmospheric passages alternating into mid-tempo, with tremolo melodies defining the excellent guitar work, you are about to delve into a whole otherworldly realm of horror. “Mountains of Madness” is a concept album based on the science-fiction and cosmic horror novella by the American author H. P. Lovecraft in 1931.

With “Silent Echoes”, Gruesome bridges the gap between the old school death metal and technical death metal. The line-up of Matt Harvey (vocalist and guitarist) Daniel Gonzalez (lead guitarist) Robin Mazin (bassist), and Gus Rios (drummer) could not resist the inevitable evolution. The third studio album released by Relapse Records on June 6th, 2025, aims to push boundaries to reflect a true tribute to Chuck Schuldiner (Death); however, it is by no means a necessary step that embodies Death’s classic album “Human”.

Ludus Umbrarum is a one-man symphonic black metal band from Serbia formed in 2024. The music here is undoubtedly sinister and dark, with many symphonic textures that give the music a gothic feel. However, the debut full-length 'Reveria Umbrarum in Tenebris' released on April 11th, 2025, by the French underground label Drakkar Productions, is similar to early Norwegian black metal bands like Dimmu Borgir. Mastermind Nino Đurić (everything) sets the bar high by incorporating elements that feature tremolo riffs, demonic rasping and the symphonic aesthetics of 90s black metal.

Netherlands-based blackened death metal outfit Antropomorphia has returned with a brand-new album 'Devoid of Light' out via Testimony Records on May 16th, 2025. Cementing the propelling mid-paced style effectively, the Dutch cult shows an interesting take on death and black metal by employing a constant flow between aggression and melodies. The main style of Antropomorphia remains dark and blistering while the riffs create an atmospheric mood with the grim force of the growls.
