We’re back! After all the years of cancelations, Tuska is finally happening again! With a hunger for one of our favorite festivals, and a very solid lineup consisting of a combination of rebookings from the canceled editions, surprising additions, and plenty of attention for local talents, we felt almost as excited as when we went to our very first Tuska back in 2016! After a great first day with memorable shows of quite a few bands, we were in a really good mood for the second day of acts we had been looking forward to, and to discover more of the festival itself!

The summer festival season has finally properly started after 2 years of barely anything! And while the established festivals all seem to be returning, there’s always room for new guns. And if they come with a cool and different concept like Hellsinki Metal Horizons, we can’t help but get excited. With a truly eclectic mix of both extreme, progressive and straight out left field bands, they were aiming to attract a similarly eclectic crowd and widen people’s horizons. Which seems to have worked admirably.

We ended up missing out on both Omnivortex and Kalmah, only catching the last song of the latter, but that didn’t change our excitement on what was to come still…

Steelfest 2022 is 4-day celebration of devil`s 10 year path.
50 bands in 4-Days full of un-compromised metal terror.

We’ve been steady supporters of the Steelfest events and now finally after 2 years of delays and much drama, the 10th year anniversary edition of Steelfest was happening! With twice the amount of days than normally, way more bands and a couple of more surprises along the way, this is simply a festival you didn’t want to miss out on if you’re any bit into underground metal without compromises!

3 days behind us, 1 more to go! This anniversary edition has been insane! Luckily this last day was a bit shorter than the other ones and it had the extra ‘Steel & Fire Fest’ and barbecue bacchanal to kick things of in a relaxed, good way.

We fully intended to catch the shows of Iku-Turso, Mist From The Mountains and Chamber Of Unlight, but honestly this extended anniversary edition of Steelfest was steadily taking its toll on us, so we sadly only managed to get ourselves together and to the festival grounds when Corpus Christii was about to take over the outdoor stage.

After an excellent first day, we geared up to get back to the festival grounds as early as we could. Sadly, we missed out on… and…, who both had crushing sets from what we’ve seen and heard.

The first day featured already an impressive collection of stellar bands. Kicking off in style, they invited the infamous Azazel to open again. Since their last show opening Steelfest in 2017 went viral due to a very clumsy, alcohol induced performance, people have been asking for their return every year. We barely saw anything of the actual show this time around since we got stuck in a long line to get in, but it seemed that this time around they got through it without incidents. Possibly to the disappointment of many there.

There is Desertfest Antwerp, Berlin, London,… but nothing of the sorts in Finland despite a pretty active stoner/psychedelic/doom scene. Time to change something about that, some people were clearly thinking. Enter the first ever Desert Hel festival for the heaviest stoner and doom music from Finnish shores and beyond. It promised to be a weekend full of loud & fuzzy shows, craft beer and psychedelic visuals and hopefully the start of a new yearly tradition after having to postpone it several times due to the pandemic! After a first night that pretty much filled On The Rocks to the brim, we were really looking forward what the Saturday night would give with shows from Khat Moses, Kaiser, Thermate, the by us much anticipated return to the stage of local rock heroes Blue Eyed Sons and the Norwegian rockers of Lonely Kamel as headliners!
