Introducing Folk Bitch Trio through their new single ‘The Actor’

Folk, Pop
rogue

Our site is dedicated to everything rock and metal with a few sidesteps in music that appeals to the same music fans like synthwave, neo (pagan) folk, industrial,… But some of us do have a taste for music and art that goes beyond these limitations. Enter “GRIMM goes rogue”: where you’ll get a metalhead, punker, rocker,… who ventures into realms beyond their usual habitat with an open mind and give their honest opinion, views and experiences.

"A mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work if it is not open."

Frank Zappa

Introducing Folk Bitch Trio — the Melbourne/Naarm-based band of Gracie Sinclair (she/her), Jeanie Pilkington (she/her) and Heide Peverelle (they/them) — who announced their signing to Jagjaguwar and release the new single/video, “The Actor.”

Folk Bitch Trio arrive as a band with an undeniable point of view, pulling from traditional forms throughout their vocals, song themes, and compositional structure. Their harmonies are rich and timeless, but what stands out the most with Folk Bitch Trio is their distinct lack of fear. They’re unafraid to get a little scuffed up, to be funny, to take risks, to subvert the genre’s expectations and pull it into the present. The result is lively, layered and beautiful; thoughtful and playful in the right places; serious, but never humorless.

This is on full display on the single, “The Actor.” There’s honest, confessional storytelling delivered via their signature resplendent three-part vocals, laced with humor and in-jokes of shared experiences. As they explain it, “The Actor” is a song about “falling hard and fast and breaking down quick too,” through lyrics that “flow down from affectionate details you notice about someone when falling in love, fighting and fucking, and ultimately the demise of a relationship at your partner’s solo theatre play.” The song’s accompanying video was co-directed by Bridgette Winten and the band.

Folk Bitch Trio formed five years ago, and its members have been inseparable since. “We have three individual voices,” they say, “but the story we tell is unified because our hearts are very melded.” Their music comes from the deep connection and collaboration that evolves between the three of them, encapsulating the growing pains they felt as people and a band in their early adult lives, touching on, as Heide says, “loss, fear, sex, rage, elation but most importantly love and laughs.”

After a breakthrough 2024 which saw the release of single “God’s a Different Sword” and worldwide shows from SXSW to support slots for the likes of Alex G, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Julia Jacklin and Courtney Barnett, the band are currently readying their debut album.
