Little Simz shares new single ‘Young’

Little Simz shares new single “Young”,  the third taster from her highly anticipated sixth album, Lotus, set for release on June 6th via AWAL Recordings.  

Rooted amongst the frank reflections and searing honesty there is also a playfulness and a sense of daring on Lotus,perfectly distilled in the punk spirit of “Young”.  A signpost of her range, bringing her gift for storytelling to the centre, Simz takes on a character, her voice rising to a high lilt, the bass transporting listeners to a world and a life apart. In her own words; “I was able to tap into a character. That was fun for me. It’s just a moment of light heartedness.”

Showcasing Simz as you’ve never seen her before, the barnstorming video for “Young” reunites her with the legendary director Dave Meyers, following their multi-award winning video collaboration for “Gorilla”.  

Guided by the production from Miles Clinton James,  “Young” is worlds apart from previous singles “Free” and “Flood”, revealing the scope and breadth of Lotus, and the shifting moods that take the listener on an expansive journey. For Simz, the title itself, Lotus, embodies renewal and growth, mirroring her evolving artistry and the album’s thematic voyage through life’s intricate phases.  Lotus features an impeccably curated list of collaborators; Moses Sumney, Miraa May,  Wretch 32,  Cashh,  Michael Kiwanuka,  Yussef Dayes,  Sampha,  Lydia Kitto, Yukimi Nagano, and Obongjayar and Moonchild Sanelly on the aforementioned “Flood”.

The Southbank Centre recently announced Little Simz as the curator of the 30th edition of its iconic contemporary music festival, Meltdown. Joining a list of previous curators that includes some of the world’s most famous artists, Simz has curated a boundary-breaking lineup for the 11-day festival, from June 12th-22nd.  Artists performing include The Streets, Sasha Keable, Lola Young,  Ghetts and Jon Batiste. Little Simz rounds off the festival, playing alongside Southbank Centre Resident Chineke! Orchestra, which sold out within hours.
