Ols unveils new video for ‘marzec’

,

Polish dark folk artist Ols has released a new video for “marzec” (March). Following the release of her fifth album “Poświaty” last May via Pagan Records, this latest visual installment captures the cold, stagnant “limbo” that exists between the death of winter and the arrival of spring.

Anna Maria Olchawa, the person behind Ols, said:

Marzec is my neofolk hypnosis. A simple motif, repeated in a loop, lulls the listener into a state of numbness, much like the feeling when our minds, worn down by a winter that has lasted too long, slip into apathy, discouragement, and a quiet, indifferent resignation.

“In the background, ghostly chimes can be heard, the faint clatter of hollow stems and weathered bones. This is how I hear March: moving slowly across the marshes, through the tangled hair of dead grasses. This is how its empty heart pulses. This is how barren, hollow dreams loop endlessly in the suspended space between death and new life. March is a limbo of blue and tawny emptiness, a mirror reflection of November in the still surfaces of wetlands.

“To capture the true spirit of March, I recorded the piece in March itself. The video was also filmed then, on the floodplains of the Dunajec River.”

The album “Poświaty” is available in a jewelcase CD format with a 20-page booklet that includes lyrics and translations. Thematically, the album “Poświaty” delves into the formative period between childhood and adulthood, exploring themes of personal mythology, the transformative power of love and the inevitable pain of loss.
