Truckfighters – Masterflow

After a good ten years, the masterminds of stoner rock, TRUCKFIGHTERS, return with a brand‑new full‑length record titled ‚Masterflow‘. This album is bound to make waves in the scene, because Swedish duo Oskar “Ozo” Cedermalm and Niklas “Dango” Källgren from Örebro are back with a vengeance.

The massive stoner sound rumbling out of the speakers is nothing short of glorious. Psychedelic guitar riffs, thunderous bass lines trading places, constantly shifting tempos – the album delivers everything a proper stoner record needs.

The fat, heavily distorted, borderline overdriven sound, always drenched in groove, will send every stoner‑rock maniac’s pulse skyrocketing. Add in a recurring pinch of blues and desert rock, and you’ve got music tailor‑made for sweat‑drenched club nights, packed concert halls, long drives down lonely highways, and volume knobs pushed to the limit.

All of that is distilled into a 6:39‑minute sonic opus called ‚Carver‘.
A heavy, melancholic blues vibe guides the listener through ‚Truce‘. Other standout tracks include ‚Gorgon’ and the opener ‚Old Big Eye‘.

The only real downside is the vocal production. Often extremely distorted and difficult to decipher, the singing leaves much to be desired. More than once, the reviewer found himself wondering whether the lyrics were even in English or perhaps in some obscure, underrepresented language. There are death metal records on the shelf with lyrics that are easier to understand. A few points have to be deducted for that.

What fans can look forward to, without a doubt, is the upcoming tour, where plenty of this new material is sure to be unleashed live.

REVIEW SCORE

  • Music / Songwriting 10/10
  • Vocals / Lyrics 5/10
  • Mix / Production 10/10
  • Artwork & Packaging 7/10
  • Originality 10/10
8.4

A strong recommendation for all stoner‑rock lovers. Musically, this is a massive, hard‑hitting slab of rock and blues wrapped in the finest stoner fabric. The vocals fall short, but instrumentally the album easily stands shoulder to shoulder with TRUCKFIGHTERS’ classic ‚Gravity X‘.
