Swedish rock band Ghost achieved great success by covering a wide range of styles and religious themes in their early albums 'Opus Eponymous', 'Infestissumam' and 'Meliora', which were inspired by the psychedelic doom of the 70s and classic rock influences. However, with each new studio album, Ghost seemed to opt for a more operatic and dramatic sound, moving away from the earlier influences of bands like Mercyful Fate and Black Sabbath.

Masters of epic doom metal, Crypt Sermon holds a nostalgic reflection of the classic style of doom metal that is firmly embedded in the band's signature sound. The Philadelphian sextet group brings its latest work under the spotlight with the 2025 EP 'Saturnian Appendices' out via Dark Descent Records on August 8, 2025, reaching another level of mastery in a sublimely epic fashion. The four-track EP is cut from the same cloth as the band’s previous outing, 'The Stygian Rose', which was a masterpiece of how doom metal can sound.

'Through the Veil of Medieval Prophecies' is the third studio album by the Swedish multi-instrumentalist Swartadauþuz, released under his new project Muvitium on July 18th via Medieval Prophecy Records. Forging a deeper and mystical connection with 90s symphonic and atmospheric black metal, Swartadauþuz made some impressive changes and well-crafted symphonic textures in the third opus. Through artfully crafted themes of mystique paganism, the album demonstrates an appealing styling from the previous albums.

From the American Connecticut, Shadow Of Intent is building their own universe of brutal riffs, symphonic greatness and dark imagination. They mix their deathcore with symphonic elements and they dream of doing a concert with an actual symphonic orchestra. One of their greatest heroes is the norwegian symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir. They released their fifth album called 'Imperium Delirium' which is a sonic nightmare full of cruelty, green flames and musical evolution.

Finding a good death metal album this year was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Luckily, the Helsinki-based death metal quartet Malformed sought standards in terms of brutality and old school spirit. The first studio album 'Confinement of Flesh', released on July 25, 2025 via Dark Descent Records, delivers a rotten sense of riffing intensity mixed with retro-styled Finnish death metal aggression.

Italian black metal entity Tenebrae in Perpetuum metamorphoses into a cold and relentless fiendish style of black metal on the fifth new album titled “Vacuum Coeli”, released via Avantgarde Music on June 20th, 2025. The album features seven blistering tracks and one intro. The album balanced between harsh vocals, icy tremolo-picked riffs, and ear-piercing abrasion. Beyond the numerous black metal bands in the genre today, Tenebrae in Perpetuum continues in the vein of the classic style of underground black metal, with the main member Atratus (all instruments) and Chimsicrin (drums) evoking chilling coldness and leaving the in-depth soundscapes for the listener to delve into the abysmal hell.

With Blood Incantation's unexpected ascendancy to intergalactic recognition, it has through some unfathomable machinations somehow become cool again to play intricate, ridiculously long compositions within the confines of death metal.

Slaughter To Prevail’s journey began in 2014 when two musicians from completely different worlds meet. Alex Terrible, forging his monstrous vocals from a bedroom in the cold, Russian city of Yekaterinburg, crossed paths online with guitarist Jack Simmons, who sharpened his craft in a quiet town of Essex, UK. What started as a distant collaboration quickly turned into a brotherhood. And eleven years later this brotherhood has released his 3rd album called 'Grizzly'.
