Finally, after postponing his tours on the one hand due to corona issues, on the other hand because he had the opportunity to go on tour with Dream Theater, our Canadian master mind half comedy guy Devin Townsend is here in support of his new album Lightwork. On this tour he brings with him the Norwegian band Fixation, which I unfortunately missed, and the French dudes of Klone

Klone

Just arrived in time to get some of the progessive French band Klone. Formed in 1995 in Poitiers they transformed from groove metal to more soundscapism progressive oriented music with a lot of post rock and post metal influences. On this tour they are promoting their new album Meanwhile. Klone brought us a good set with very talented musicians, good compositions and an incredible singer Yann Ligner, he has quite a voice. The French audience liked it very much, of course you know the chauvinistic French people. When the set progressed I just couldn’t help myself to notice that I missed some more uptempo changes in the songs.

Devin Townsend

Time to what we are all have been waiting for. The return of Jedi.. oh wait.. Devin Townsend I mean. Everyone that has witnessed a concert of him knows that his interaction with the audience is one of the biggest go to’s. Of course his incredible talent to write outstanding music may not be forgotten. While this tour is more focussing on Lightwork we would sure be in for some surprises. Opening with Lightworker to the more known songs Deadhead, Spirits Will Collide and Truth to more surprisingly songs like The Fluke (from Terria)  and Bad Devil  (from Inifinity), the setlist was well-balanced.

One of the most outstanding songs was the performance of Why? On his previous tour this was done with a lot of people while this time it was only a four-piece. With this song Devin showed us once more he is just a great songwriter. With an outstanding rhythm section in the form of Darby Todd on drums and James Leach on bass nothing could go wrong. Mike Keneally, the wizard does it all sidekick of Devin just amazes us to do it all, keyboard, guitar, singing, he is a band on his own. The audience just got crazy as the set continued, it was clear that we missed shows like this. Of course the evening couldn’t end better with Love?

Setlist:

Lightworker
Kingdom
Dimensions
Why?
The Fluke
Deadhead
Deep Peace
Heartbreaker
Spirits Will Collide
Truth
Bad Devil
Call of the Void
Love?

What an evening again. The comedy level of Devin‘s shows is simply amazing. He just gives you a really good feeling when you leave the concert. With a varied setlist he brought something for everyone’s taste. Don’t hesitate if you can still can catch him close to you, just do it.
