Primitive Man – Immersion

Two splits with Unearthly Trance and Hell after their sophomore record ‘Caustic’, Primitive Man is leaving the cave once more for their third album ‘Immersion’.
From ‘The Lifer’s very first notes of distorted noise coming out of your bruised and abused speakers, it’s abundantly clear that Ethan McCarthy and co has not softened up with the years, nor do they sound any happier.

In McCarthy’s own words “Now you’re a grown man and you’re fucked.”

Primitive Man’s sound can be summed up as the ugliest parts of doom, noise and sludge put together and turned up to eleven. The rejects that nobody wanted, assembled in one hybrid sewer monster that wreaks a bludgeoning havoc on the society that spat it out.

‘Entity’ starts as if you’ve fallen into a vat of genetically engineered, super aggressive wasps, until that vat get kicked over with pounding drums. As it rolls down the street, you scream in anguish.
Not being given a second to recover as you finally make your way out, ‘Menacing’ hunts you down in feverish blastbeats. You try and hide in dark, sludgy corners, but these fleeting moments give you no reprieve from the grind.
The white noise of ‘∞’ might seem like the light at the end of the tunnel, an end to the misery. At least it seems like it, but that turns out to be just wishful thinking.
With ‘Foul’ you’re dragged back to the ugly reality of your miserable existence through screeching feedback and uncompromising, hammering riffs.
With the last of your defiance drained, ‘Consumption’ rolls over you, flattening you. All that is left for you is to empty your lungs in frustration.
Yep ,you’re well and truly fucked.
