RinRin signed to Year of the Rat Records and released first single

Alternative Metal, Pop

RinRin is the musical project of Filipino-born and Australian-based singer-songwriter and guitarist Qarin Hipe. Taking cues from luminaires BABYMETAL, Poppy and Bring Me The Horizon, RinRin creates her own unique brand of pop-punk and metal that expounds infectious energy. Since bursting onto the scene in 2020 with her debut single ‘The Game’, the 20-year-old has had a quick trajectory and shared stages with artists such as Windwaker, Redhook, Reliqa, The Plot In You, ERRA, Caskets, The Home Team, and To Octavia. More recently she joined Walk-Off The Earth‘s 6 city arena tour in China in April 2024. In her rapid rise, RinRin has seen editorial support from Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Pandora and Deezer and also received regular support from Triple J. Having now signed to new label Year Of The Rat Records (Save Us, Lastelle, Black Orchid Empire) the first single ‘CORNDOG!’ is out now!

This song was inspired by Rin‘s cravings for corndogs during her trip to Melbourne, where she went to record. While it doesn’t have much significance in the broader RinRin lore, it serves as a light-hearted break between the darker songs. Think of this as an “ad break” within the RinRin lore: “We interrupt this program, brought to you by Purrfectly Fried, selling their newest product—Feline Franks, the iconic corndog reinvented!”. Within the RinRin lore, cats are one of the many creatures that evolved into anthropomorphic beings. One of the major characters, based on Rin‘s real-life cat, Mimi, is also a character who runs a restaurant. One of the food items Mimi makes are corndogs, labelled as ‘Feline Franks’ (Mimi argues they’re way better than corndogs and dogs are naturally lesser than cats.) Disclaimer: Feline Franks products are NOT made of actual cats. The name comes from the fact that the company was founded by a cat.

Rinrin – “I am super excited to be working with YOTR on this next era of my music, especially with the upcoming release of my debut album.”

YOTR owner James Illsley – “RinRin is the label’s first international signing since we launched 4 years ago. Her idiosyncratic brand of hyper-pop cuts through the noise and I couldn’t think of a more innovative artist to bring to the label as we celebrate this milestone. I worked with the team on the last EP for playlisting and am now very excited to help take RinRin to the next level”
