The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown returns with apocalyptic funk prophecy for the digital age with ‘When the Juice Ran Out’

Los Angeles based music collective The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown is back and breaking boundaries once again with their new single, “When the Juice Ran Out,”  a funk fueled warning for a world on the edge.

“When the Juice Ran Out” imagines a world where the internet collapses and society is forced to reconnect, both physically and spiritually. It’s a raw, horn fueled reminder that our reliance on tech could be our undoing. 

“In a world full of emojis, endless scrolling, and algorithm-driven everything,’When the Juice Ran Out’ takes a real look at how glued we’ve all become to our phones and feeds. The song is a reminder of how easy it is to forget how to live without being constantly plugged in” says producer and bassist John Heintz, who founded the collective in 2007 – “No screen, no signal—just reality. Then what?”

Angelo Moore’s electrifying vocal delivery and sax lines anchor the track’s message with urgency and flair. Moore adds: “Our hyper-connected civilization traded real-world presence for the digital illusion.  It’s a wake-up call questioning our adaptability when forced to face ourselves in an unplugged, analog world”

The song began as an isolated drum track recorded by Jack Irons during a 2016 session. Heintz sent it to legendary bassist Rodney “Skeet” Curtis, who added his low-end magic. Guitarist Tim Stewart then layered riffs that set the stage for Angelo Moore to unleash his lyrical vision and saxophone brilliance. Mixed by Fabrizio Grossi and mastered by Dave Gardner. The track is paired with psychedelic cover art by Johnny “Thief” DiDonna and Jeff Wood. 

Founded by John Heintz, The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown is a genre-defying musical project that brings together some of the world’s most renowned and innovative artists. Known for their sprawling collaborations and multi-genre sound, the Getdown has previously featured contributions from members of The Meters, Sly and the Family Stone, the Time, Mudvayne, the Neville Brothers, 311, Jane’s Addiction, Arrested Development, Primus, Living Colour and many more. Their upcoming album ‘Volume 3’ out this September promises to further expand the Getdown’s boundary-pushing legacy.
