Dutch metal outfit Textures releases new single ‘Vanishing Twin’

In the run-up to the release of their long-awaited new album ‘Genotype‘ – the first in ten years, which will be released on Friday 23 January via the British record label Kscope Music – the Dutch metal band Textures releases the new single Vanishing Twin. Inspired by personal experiences of the band members, the track explores the rarely discussed “Vanishing Twin Syndrome”.

Drummer Stef Broks:

I have two family members who struggle with the so-called “Lost of Vanishing Twin” syndrome. This happens when two fetuses arise in the womb, but one of them is absorbed by the woman’s body or by the other twin. The child that is eventually born often carries the traumatic feeling of losing a sibling, and that can shape their lives in a profound way.”

As a conceptual counterpart to the 2016 praised ‘Phenotype‘, successor ‘Genotype‘ is not a continuation, but a rebirth. For almost a decade, fans speculated about the existence of the album, but what is now released is not a remnant of unfinished ideas – it is completely new, written from the ground up and self-produced. ‘Genotype‘ distills the essence of Textures‘ DNA in eight new songs, mixed by Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus). Lyrically, the album focuses on the unheard: introverts, outsiders and those who navigate inner worlds that often remain invisible – an ode to authenticity and resilience.

When Textures announced its farewell in 2018, seventeen years after its formation, the progressive metal community felt it was the sad end of an era. Textures‘ absence was felt fiercely worldwide by fans, colleagues, journalists, music venues and festivals. Now, seven years later, the musical innovators return with album number six: ‘Genotype‘, a monumental resurrection on the front lines of modern progressive music, and a powerful reaffirmation of everything that originally made Textures such an influential band.

Since its formation in 2001, the band has left its mark on modern metal. The self-released debut album ‘Polars‘ from 2003 laid the foundation for the innovative sound and quickly attracted the attention of the French record company Listenable Records (including Gojira, Obituary and Soilwork). With their distinctive DIY mentality, the six musicians produced their albums; took care of their own artwork; and even built multiple studios to follow their creative process. Later, they signed a record deal with the German record label Nuclear Blast Records, which released ‘Dualism‘ (2011) and ‘Phenotype‘ (2016).

Throughout their career, Textures shared the stage with greats such as MeshuggahSepulturaMachine HeadAll That RemainsArch Enemy, and The Dillinger Escape Plan, and was supported by bands such as GojiraVolbeatParkway Drive , and Architects. Their innovative albums ‘Silhouettes‘ and ‘Dualism‘ established their position as pioneers of this music genre and influenced bands such as PeripheryAnimals as Leaders and Tesseract, among others.

In India, they played at major festivals and in front of thousands of dedicated fans. In Europe they became a fixture at events such as Hellfest, Graspop Metal Meeting and Brutal Assault. With an international fanbase, impressive festival performances at the likes of Hellfest, Wacken Open Air, Lowlands, Graspop Metal Meeting, Tuska Metal Fest and Brutal Assault, plus equally intense and energetic live shows that make them a must-see act, the band now returns to reclaim its place on the global metal stages.

In January, February and March 2026, Textures will tour Europe together with Ukrainian metal(core) band Jinjer .
