Chthonic frontman Freddy Lim will perform an acoustic gig at the Helsinki Travel Fair
Taiwan’s new Ambassador to Finland, Freddy Lim, made a spectacular start to his career as ambassador in Helsinki last year. At the end of the year, Formosa : Finland : Fest: metal event, Lim, who shone on stage with his band CHTHONIC, will next perform this week in a completely different environment at the Helsinki Travel Fair. On Friday January 16 at 4.30 p.m., Freddy will be accompanied by a Taiwania line-up, and there will be acoustic versions of songs by the top names in Taiwanese metal.
“I was really excited about this when I received the invitation to perform, and it is an honor to present Taiwan, a country of hundreds of mountain peaks, in the land of thousands of lakes in Finland. I decided to put together a special set for this performance, which includes songs that are rarely heard acoustically and that have not even been played in Taiwan,” says Freddy Lim and continues:
“I also wanted to take the opportunity to introduce wonderful Taiwanese musicians living in Helsinki, who will now also interpret these songs with me to the tunes of traditional Taiwanese instruments.”
In addition to Lim, the Taiwana team includes Bunun singer Kiwa Takishusungan, Tsugaru shamisen master Zuiko (Ni Jui-Hsin) and violinist Huang Tai-Yuan. The composition is named after Taiwan’s national tree, which symbolizes deep roots, growth, and the coexistence of diversity. On Friday, the band will perform songs by Freddy Lim‘s own band CHTHONIC, and Endless Aeons, among others, at Messukeskus.
Freddy Lim has enjoyed his time in Finland so far, and the changes of the seasons have become very familiar.
“During these months I have already spent here, I have also been able to slow down and learn the rhythm of Finnish life. It has brought a deeper understanding of both time and space, and this has given me space to reflect not only on my work, but also on my whole life,” Lim says.
