Starting off with ‘Into Oblivion’ itself. And what a banger to begin with you already hear the groove metal and the metalcore influences they put in there. Catchy grooves delivered by our dynamic duo Mark Morton and Willie Adler who still suprise me to these day with what they come up with. With ‘Parasocial Christ’ we get a faster song that still stays in the core vibes and the sudden tempo changes on drums. With ‘Sepsis’ we get a log and dark but groovy monster with some insane vocal work from Randy Blythe. Going further with ‘The Killing Floor’ that picks up the pace again to come out with strange bird in the sky. ‘El Vacio’ that has the structure of a ballad song with even some clean’ish vocal work of Randy Blythe. Strange to put this in the middle of the album cause it takes the pace out of it.
With ‘St. Catherine’s Wheel’ we get the Lamb Of God back that we’re used too with the groovy changes and metalcore elements. And ‘Blunt Force Blues’ gets the price for best riff of the album. What an insane riff they put in this song. ‘Bully’ is a metalcore song pur sang but Lamb Of God never fully got the stamp of metalcore. The influences are there but nobody sound like Lamb Of God. With ‘A Thousand Years’ Randy Blythe shows his versatility as vocalist followed by the raw, and logge riffs. We end this album with ‘Devise/Destroy’ which has a nice hardcore vibe and is the best way to end an album like this. Let’s just give it another spin shall we.
For me they will never surpass their album ‘Ashes Of The Wake’ but this new album ‘Into Oblivion’ has a nice ring to it and it did what it come to do. Conquer our hearts once again.
Catch them live in Europe this summer at plenty of festivals, including Alcatraz Festival!
