Ektomorf

A couple of weeks ago, Ektomorf brought their ‘Vivid Black Over Europe Tour 2024’ to the South of Heaven venue in Bilzen, Belgium, and supported by Inmate, Serpents and Tag My Heart brought the house down!

At the beginning of March, Amaranthe, Dragonforce and Infected Rain brought quite the spectacle to thousands of fans gathered in Helsinki’s Black Box Jäähalli venue!

With mind-blowing energy and pure anticipation, Esprit D’air blew the roof off Northumbria University with Diamond Black supporting!

It’s spring and the year kicks off with a metalcore highlight: Electric Callboy is on the ‘Tekkno World Tour 2024’, and we caught them at the Schleyerhalle venue in Stuttgart, Germany. In tow, the German sextet brought along the band Coldrain from Japan and Nothing More from the United States. They are setting ablaze the largest stages in Europe before heading on to the US, Canada, and a selection of summer festivals, don’t miss out!

An assault bus passed through Munich, and inside it were the Americans of Lionheart, Suicide Silence, Kublai Khan and Paleface Swiss, who simply wrung all the sweat out of those present in the larger room of the Backstage club.

Avatar dropped by the legendary Helsinki venue Tavastia on their “The Great Metal Circus 2024” tour, bringing their visual spectacle and theatrics properly to Finland. With them they brought the US metallers of Æther Realm, really blowing up the night!

Last week, Cyhra, together with NeonFly, started off their short Finland tour at Tampere’s YO-Talo with a blast of a show organised by Nem Agency.

Last week, after a fantastic 2023, Bury Tomorrow started the new year with a victory lap in their own country with a small UK tour with the support of metalcore/modern metal greats We Came As Romans and Kingdom of Giants! We caught up with them at the Boiler Shop in Newcastle for what was an amazing show!

With 3 bands being shining lights for (the future of) metal, and all 3 of them having a brand-new album in their pocket, Amaranthe, Dragonforce and Infected Rain turned Black Box Helsinki into a true celebration of heavy music about a month ago!

“The Great Metal Circus 2024” landed in Helsinki, where Avatar turned being at Tavastia that night into something absolutely spectacular and memorable! And the support Æther Realm came all the way from the US to Finland for the very first time, doing a great job at warming up the crowd!

Modern metal outfit CyHra came to present their latest album ‘The Vertigo Trigger’ to their Finnish fans starting with a show at Yo-Talo in Tampere, with support band Neonfly, turning the night into a celebration of good music and community!

A night in New Hampshire, the Shinedown “Revolutions Live Tour” struck down at BankNH Pavilion, and brought with them Papa Roach and Spiritbox for an amazing evening of modern metal/rock!

Legendary Belgian metal band Channel Zero finally got to celebrate their 30th anniversary (a few years late due to the pandemic) at Cactus Club in Brugge, a small venue that was a perfect setting for an intense, energetic and somewhat intimate show. Support came from modern metal/nu metal stars on the rise Mantah!

Ice Nine Kills finally made it to Finland for 2 sold out shows, and we were at the Helsinki show in Vanha Ylioppilastalo back in May with support from special guests SKYND and openers Lansdowne! They quite literally killed it!

Sabatons ‘Tour To End All Tours’ came finally to an end, but not before also bringing the fire to Finland. With the Support of Lordi and BABYMETAL, they gave us an incredible show at the sold out Jäähalli in Helsinki last week. Thanks to TuskaLive and Grey Beard for bringing them here!

Kamelot struck down in Helsinki to give us a proper “awakening” on their European tour, and brought with them some excellent support through Myrath, Eleine and League of Distortion! A night of absolutely excellent music that left a positive feeling with anyone who attended the show at Vanha Ylioppilastalo at the end of March!

Back in March, Leprous dropped by Vanha Ylioppilastalo in Helsinki on their “Aphelion European Tour” and swept us away with a night of exceptional music, supported by Monuments and Kalandra.

Lost Society brought with Balance Breach and Luna Kills a showcase of the future of the Finnish heavy music scene in front of a completely sold out and packed to the brim Tavastia in Helsinki!

Album Reviews

‘The Catalyst’ contains powerful songs that are loud and clear. But then again, the album also has a power ballad. It shows once again the different styles that Amaranthe has to offer. Out since last month via Nuclear Blast!

Tampere’s Everwave are giving us an early Christmas present, with their slow roasted second album ‘Another Lifetime’ which dropped on December 1st. They spiced up their existing sound with some new elements and took their music another step forward.

Chris Maragoth just released his first album, ‘Gatherer of Souls’. Some of the songs have already been released before, and have been remastered for this album. Some songs are brand new. This album contains mostly instrumental melodic death metal/modern metal tracks, worked on by Chris alone or together with other artists, bringing a lovely collection of melodeath-inspired modern metal tracks!

A Life Divided’s new album, ‘Down The Spiral Of A Soul’, feels a little too instantly familiar, but it provides a very easy, fun listening experience. The album was released via AFM Records earlier this summer!

Curse Of Cain released their self-titled grand debut album via Atomic Fire Records back on May 12th. This album adds a fresh flavour to the Modern Metal scene.

Parkway Drive’s latest ‘Darker Still’ is a darker album than usual, but the quality is outstanding. So much energy is coming from this, you can feel that this was an outlet for the band to share some of their dark thoughts. A masterpiece from a continuously evolving band, out via Epitaph Records.

French metal outfit Dagoba delivers with ‘By Night’ an album that very well might be the next step in their career and a schooling in modern metal! A furious blend of metal, electronic elements and neck breaking moves.

Written from her own experiences in life, Lena Scissorhands and her band-mates bring us another album with some undeniable truths!

Whitechapel has made the album they always wanted to make and they finally found what they we’re looking for.

There are modern rock and melodic metal parts in this EP, there are classical parts, there are parts where it’s all combined into one. But most of all, I love storytelling and these Tales are amazing.
