Soen release new ‘Axis’ video and kicked off massive world tour
Swedish progressive metal heavyweights Soen have unveiled a brand-new music video for “Axis”, taken from their latest album Reliance, released earlier this year via Silver Lining Music. The video was directed by renowned Swedish filmmaker Patric Ullaeus, known for his work with numerous major metal acts. According to the band, the visual approach deliberately keeps things stripped down and focused on performance.
Frontman Joel Ekelöf explains the concept behind the song:
“Axis is about the moment when you begin to realize that the roles given to you don’t really belong to you. In the song, you step outside everything you have learned to adapt to. That’s when you remember that underneath it all there is something stronger. The flame already exists. The question is whether we are ready to step closer and follow it together.”
Founding member and drummer Martin Lopez adds:
“This is a theme song for those of us who refuse to pretend that those in power truly have our best interests at heart. A musical ‘fuck you’ to all of them.”
Speaking about the video itself, Ekelöf continues:
“The video keeps things as simple as they should be. We just go all in and perform a song we love. The video feels like a rehearsal moment captured through the lens of the incredible Patric Ullaeus, and the result feels perfect for a track like this.”
Following a recent Scandinavian tour — which also included shows in Finland — Soen are heading straight back onto the road. The band launches a North American tour before continuing through the summer festival season and embarking on an extensive European run later in the year.
In total, Soen are scheduled to perform around 80 shows worldwide throughout the year, including festival appearances such as Alcatraz Festival, Rockharz Festival, Summer Breeze Open Air and Be Prog! My Friend Festival.
