Danish prog metal quartet Feather Mountain releases fourth and final single from upcoming album

Progressive Metal

As Copenhagen, Denmark-based prog metal quartet Feather Mountain prepares for the release of their second album A Liminal Step on November 27th, today the band releases the albums’ fourth and final single Prayer Wall, out now everywhere. The new single as well as the prior ones, including the latest video single ‘Sigil’ showcases the new album that revolves around psychological vulnerability expressed through progressive metal, electronic avant-garde, and inspiration from the world of tarot cards.

FEATHER MOUNTAIN states on Prayer Wall:

“The release of ‘A Liminal Step’, is drawing near and we’re thrilled to share ‘Prayer Wall’ with you all. Musically inspired by the blackgaze genre, the track explores the conflicting emotions of witnessing a loved one cultivate a trauma and wear it as an armor, creating distance and alienation. The foundation of this song has been with the band since 2017, and it’s cathartic to finally see it come to fruition.”

FEATHER MOUNTAIN will play a release show on November 28th at BETA in their hometown of Copenhagen, Denmark, and more shows will be announced in the months to come. Tickets for the Copenhagen show are available HERE.

In the world of tarot, “The Fool” is a dreamy character at the beginning of a meaningful journey. In the same way, Feather Mountain takes a musical step into the unknown through A Liminal Step, and the listener is invited to fall with the band into an abyss. An abyss where traumas dominate, and societal structures seem crippling.

Each song is part of the albums’ red thread, and Feather Mountain leads the listener through a musical wilderness in their search for meaning – from the inner glow on Realignment to an emotional armor in Prayer Wall. On the album, an underlying realization emerges, that we are all on a journey toward understanding and self-acceptance, and A Liminal Step becomes a magical antidote in a world full of chaos.

Musically, A Liminal Step is the result of Feather Mountain’s experimentation with genre-blending, where progressive metal elements meet electronic and ambient passages, creating an eclectic and dynamic soundscape. Heavy, off-kilter riffs melt together with passages of vulnerable vocal arrangements on a backdrop of raw synths.

The instrumental reflects the album’s emotional complexity. Lyrically, A Liminal Step revolves around the struggles we have as humans; how we deal with our inner demons, confront our emotions, and try to find hope and meaning in a complex world. Along the way, Feather Mountain explores the experience of being trapped in one’s own reality and questions how we navigate as a society.

Feather Mountain has previously released Nidus (2019) and To Exit a Maelstrom (2022), and with its fusion of dreamy alternative rock and offbeat metal atmospheres, the band cemented its unique sound. Both albums received praise from critics at home and abroad and after the release of To Exit a Maelstrom, Feather Mountain performed at events such as Roskilde Festival, Euroblast, and Terneuzen on Fire, and joined VOLA on their Friend of a Phantom Tour in 2024.

On A Liminal Step, Feather Mountain collaborates with producer Johan Emanuel Jørgensen, who was also involved in Nidus and To Exit a Maelstrom. Additionally, A Liminal Step is co-produced by Ingolf Schjødt and Zack Christ, who allow the album to transcend the metal genre through inspiration from electronic avant-garde and the world of pop. A Liminal Step marks a bold, artistic step toward new horizons for Feather Mountain, that challenges with introspective and vulnerable progressive metal.
