“All Gates Open (OST)” is the missing link between Blood Incantation’s 2022 EP “Timewave Zero”; the four prolonged ambient tracks take you on an evocative journey through imaginative landscapes crafted by Paul Riedl, Morris Kolontyrsky, Jeff Barrett, and Isaac Faulk, all playing on some expensive set of synthesizers. Although this experimental work is not considered a follow-up to the band’s latest album, it laid the sonic groundwork for sonic visions. The soundtrack and documentary were exclusively featured in the deluxe art book edition of “Absolute Elsewhere” and are now separately released on CD, Blu-Ray, and Vinyl.
“All Gates Open (OST)” blends aethereal, immersive atmospheres to create eerie vibes in a sonic realm that feels both enlightening and captivating. The rudimentary ideas developed to reveal the ambient side of Blood Incantation. The 70s Berlin School artists like Klaus Schulz and Tangerine Dream are a seminal influence on this ambient music, which melds hypnotic and ethereal space themes, exhibiting mesmerizing outings from Blood Incantation.
The opening track, “Balance”, is 20 minutes long and serves as a mindscape from this reality, where synthesizer notes seem to float through cosmic air, creating a spiritual anchor. In its otherworldly spectrum, the synthesizer is filled with esoteric atmospheres that set the tone. The well-crafted compositions oscillate between illusionism and a more dreamlike state, a style of sheer elegance that is.
The musical endeavour lies in the profound ability to stretch the range of emotions; the spectral frequencies drift back and forth, the rhythmic electronics induce esoteric moods on the following track, “Flight”, which is another 20-minute epic piece of 70s sci-fi-based music.
Echo effects and exotic sounds unfold over an hour of pure relaxation; even the instrumental cuts woosh like laser beams. These four instrumental tracks offer synth drones and cinematic quality of cosmic canvases, allowing vivid landscapes to form in the listener’s mind. The experience transports you into the vast cosmos without losing the essential elements that shape electrodynamics. There are also electronic beats that exhilarate enough to make your trip into luminous galaxies and dancing spheres.
The ambient tones embrace the flair of 70s electronic music with immaculate style. Within the expansive spectrum, we even hear Hammond organ sections, which are rather rare in ambient music.
While these improvisations somehow find a balance, the elements on “Dawn,” the shortest instrumental piece, the synth pulses, and the mellotron melody provide textural depth. I somehow felt mesmerized by the bright sounds and arrangements.
“All Gates Open (OST)” has a cosmic effect. There are plenty of drones and layered synths with repeated fragments that constantly stretch the soundscapes. This studio work showcases the ambient downtempo side of Blood Incantation if you want to soothe your mood at night. The final track, “Rain”, is thirteen minutes long and offers a hypnotic, contemplative mood drifting between cosmic soundscapes. The opening modulation exudes calm ambient music, elongated cosmic effects, and pulsing ethereal qualities over a lush organ.
