Mötley Crüe – The Dirt Soundtrack

The Dirt Soundtrack is an album that got released a few days after the Mötley Crüe movie with the same name. Both are translations from the book ‘The Dirt’, that got released on the 22nd of May, 2001. They all tell the story about Motley Crue, a glam rock band that started out in the 80’s and quit in 2015. Each medium tells the story with it’s own character. For example, the book has way more and more specific details than the movie has. The movie turns some things around to fit the story better. The book is pure, as I can call it that. Never the less, all issues of The Dirt tell you one story. The story of Mötley Crüe, or in short: sex, drugs and rock ’n roll.

Let’s talk about the CD version of this story. It starts of with a new song: ‘The Dirt’. It’s basically a 4 minute summary of Mötley Crüe story. ‘Just give me what I want till it hurts’. ‘More sex, more tats, more blood, more pain…’. The video clip of this song shows the band members and the actors who played them in the movie. I have to say, the acting is on point. Even though the story in the movie misses some points, the mimics of Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars and Tommy Lee are copied really well. And about the song itself, it sounds like the Crüe still got it.

The album continues as a ‘Greatest Hits’ album, with all of their most famous songs. For example: ‘Kickstart My Heart’, ‘Same ol’ Situation’, ‘Shout at the Devil’, ‘Dr. Feelgood’, …

At the end of the album we have 3 more new songs: ‘Ride With the Devil’, ‘Crash and Burn’ and ‘Like a Virgin’. ‘Ride With the Devil’ would have been the title of the album ‘Shout at the Devil’, but because that title caused too many satanism vibes it got changed to ‘Shout at the Devil’ back then. ‘Like a Virgin’ is, yeah, it’s a cover of Madonna’sLike a Virgin’. It got me by surprise. It’s just so wrong that it’s good. I mean, Mötley Crüe is everything but a virgin. It’s just so contradictory. But yeah, a funny note to end the album on.

Conclusion: It’s a good summary of Mötley Crüe, and, they still got it. I recommend watching the movie for images behind the songs and I highly recommend reading the book for every detail behind the songs.
