Amorphis was one of the first metal bands I've listened to and liked, but while I enjoyed a lot of their older work, it never really hit the sweet spot for me. This only changed with the release of 'Queen of Time'. 'Borderland' while in many ways similar to the aforementioned album, has added even more elements into their sound. This album is probably not gonna tickle everyone’s fancy, especially long time fans might miss some of the harder elements of Amorphis' sound as it feels a lot more commercially acceptable. That said, I personally like it a lot, it might even be my favourite Amorphis album so far.

For those who weren't aware yet, Lorna Shore is an American deathcore band that was founded in 2010 and has found their road to success. That wasn't easy. After several vocalist changes, Will Ramos came in and then finally the road to success began with the release of the single 'To The Hellfire' that baffled everyone. His vocal range was supernatural. It resulted in their 4th album 'Pain Remains' with the astonishing trilogy 'Pain Remains I, II and III'. Now their hitting the stage as a headliner. From nobody to headliner and now releasing their 5th album 'I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me'.

German heavy power metal legends Helloween celebrate their 40th anniversary with the newest album “Giants & Monsters”, marking another achievement in the band’s expanding discography. Ever since the inauguration in late 80’s Helloween has been a force to be reckoned with and have been a paragon of virtue of European traditional metal holding all the musical parameters by maintaining their neoclassical style on the debut album “Walls of Jericho”, and the sophomore masterpiece “Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I” and the follow-up album “Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II”.

In a direct death/doom metal approach, the Boston, Massachusetts quartet Innumerable Forms delivers a rawer slab of doom filthiness on the band’s third full-length album, “Pain Effluence”. I was mainly impressed by the heavy guitar dirges and the deep growling on the previous two albums, “Punishment in Flesh” and “Philosophical Collapse”; however, as a fan who loves death doom metal style, Innumerable Forms seems like a mature band now with the third installment.

The Swedes love their death metal. Even though the old guard from the first generation of death metal in the late eighties and early nineties have often moved on to new territories in their main band, they do like to revisit it from time to time. Think for instance of Bloodbath.

The Germans of Heaven Shall Burn are back. Founded in 1996, they are the godfathers of metalcore. We have waited for 5 years to see 'Heimat' appear, their 10th album. A milestone in itself and next year they will also have been around for 30 years, so enough stuff to do. But for now we have 'Heimat' before us.

Swedish Viking death metal formation Unleashed has been one of the main figures in the Scandinavian death metal scene since their inception in 1991, alongside bands like Grave, Dismember, Hypocrisy and Entombed. With 14 albums under their belt, “Fire Upon Your Lands” is a raw and brutal album that will not disappoint. Sounding as fierce as ever, the coherent chemistry between the dual guitars and thundering drums makes these songs work flawlessly through pure aggression, emphasizing chugs, heavy bass, and crushing up tempos.

Bury Tomorrow is a British metalcore band formed in 2006. Back in the day they were rookies in the pond that we call metalcore, and now they are one of the big names in the modern scene. And they will show you with their seventh album what they've built over the years.

Swedish rock band Ghost achieved great success by covering a wide range of styles and religious themes in their early albums 'Opus Eponymous', 'Infestissumam' and 'Meliora', which were inspired by the psychedelic doom of the 70s and classic rock influences. However, with each new studio album, Ghost seemed to opt for a more operatic and dramatic sound, moving away from the earlier influences of bands like Mercyful Fate and Black Sabbath.

Masters of epic doom metal, Crypt Sermon holds a nostalgic reflection of the classic style of doom metal that is firmly embedded in the band's signature sound. The Philadelphian sextet group brings its latest work under the spotlight with the 2025 EP 'Saturnian Appendices' out via Dark Descent Records on August 8, 2025, reaching another level of mastery in a sublimely epic fashion. The four-track EP is cut from the same cloth as the band’s previous outing, 'The Stygian Rose', which was a masterpiece of how doom metal can sound.
