Prima Queen share brand-new single ‘The Prize’

Indie

Transatlantic indie specialists Prima Queen share brand new single ‘The Prize’, out now, marking the third preview from their forthcoming debut LP (pre-order here), set for release April 25th via Submarine Cat Records (Swim Deep, FEET,  Home Counties, Fraulein).

Fresh from supporting Everything Everything on their extensive December UK tour and announcing their biggest ever headline tour, including a London headline show at Islington Assembly Hall for May 22nd, Prima Queen will also play alongside returning indie favourites The Maccabees at All Points East (London) next summer, as momentum certainly continues to accelerate ahead of their album release.

Packed with effusive, empathic melodies, their upcoming record represents a bold new era for a band primed and ready to truly assert their individuality, with its title-track marking the follow-up to revered lead singles ‘Fool’ and ‘Ugly’ over the autumn months. The songs of bandleaders Louise Macphail and Kristin McFadden play like a love letter to the radical power of friendship; to the fans who have revelled in the band’s bitingly charismatic storytelling, qualities which are showcased vividly throughout their entire debut LP.

Produced by Steph Marziano (Hayley Williams, Let’s Eat Grandma) and recorded at London’s Angelica Studios in late 2023, the band approached ‘The Prize’ with the intention to paint all of their emotional revelations on a rich sonic canvas. Tapping into the shimmering pop sensibilities of Haim and Jenny Lewis, an openness of spirit defines the 12 tracks, partly inspired by the euphoria the group experienced on stage over the past year while touring with the likes of Olivia Dean, Wet Leg and Whitney.

Having built a glowing live reputation through appearances at the likes of Glastonbury, SXSW and Pitchfork Paris in recent times, Prima Queen have already gained plaudits from all corners of the press landscape (The Guardian, The I Paper, The Independent, The Times, NME, DIY, Dork, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash), whilst multiple previous singles have all landed on the BBC 6 Music playlist (Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens, Lauren Laverne, Craig Charles) to widespread acclaim.

Speaking ahead of their third LP reveal, Prima Queen stated: “Writing ‘The Prize’ felt kind of magical – we thought we had finished the album but this song suddenly came to us while we were writing in the studio with our producer Steph (Marziano) and we knew it had to be the album title-track. It felt like it tied all the other songs together in a really special way.  It’s a song to remind you that YOU’RE THE PRIZE which is easy to forget sometimes!”

Prima Queen’s ‘The Prize’ is out now via Submarine Cat Records and available on all digital platforms.
