From the roots of Amon Amarth, Fimbul Winter strikes with debut EP ‘What Once Was’

Death Metal, Melodic Death Metal

FIMBUL WINTER, a powerful new force in Swedish Death Metal, makes its debut with the EP “What Once Was”, out November 14, 2025. Formed by former Amon Amarth members Anders Biazzi, Niko Kaukinen, and Fredrik Andersson, along with Clint Williams, the band fuses decades of experience with a fresh, uncompromising energy. “What Once Was” delivers a sound that is cold, intense, and fiercely authentic – a bold statement from a band built on unfinished business and a shared passion for the roots of Swedish Death Metal.

The band also drops the track listing and cover art for “What Once Was”, giving fans their first look at FIMBUL WINTER’s debut:

For fans of: early Amon Amarth, Unleashed, Hypocrisy, Bolt Thrower, old-school melodic death metal

1 – Storms Rage
2 – What Once Was
3 – Mounds Of Stones
4 – A Soul That Soared
5 – In Solitude’s Embrace

Session bass by Tobias Cristiansson (Necrophobic, Grave, Dismember etc)

Fimbul Winter is a new force in Swedish Death Metal, but its foundation runs deep in the genre’s roots. The band unites former Amon Amarth founding members Anders Biazzi (then Hansson) and Niko Kaukinen, with longtime Amon Amarth drummer Fredrik Andersson, solidified with the addition of Clint Williams, whose presence introduced a new dimension of energy and intensity to the band’s sonic identity.

The idea began with a spontaneous reunion performing the Amon Amarth demo from 1994 called “The Arrival Of The Fimbul Winter”. That reconnection quickly turned into something more serious: a desire to create new music that captures the spirit of the early Swedish scene, without compromises and without dilution of intensity.

The result is the debut five-track EP “What Once Was” where Fimbul Winter delivers a sound that is cold, uncompromising, and fiercely authentic. As torchbearers of the Swedish melodic Death Metal tradition the band channels decades of experience while staying true to the sound that defined them, from rediscovered riffs originally written for Amon Amarth to entirely new compositions.

Fimbul Winter is not a side project or nostalgia trip. It’s a band built on unfinished business and a shared intent to continue shaping the sound they helped create.

Stay tuned –  FIMBUL WINTER’s debut single is about to unleash its fury!

Lineup:
Niko Kaukinen – Drums (ex-Amon Amarth founding member)
Anders Biazzi – Guitar (ex-Amon Amarth founding member)
Fredrik Andersson – Lead Guitar (ex-Amon Amarth)
Clint Williams – Vocals (Munitions)
