The album features 11 power tracks produced by Rick Ratz, with whom Danko Jones has had a long-standing collaboration. Throughout, Danko Jones stays loyal to his sound—punk and garage rock influences are unmistakable, and no compromises are made. The whole thing feels like it’s been hammered together with a steam-powered sledgehammer. Always keeping the remains of an unpolished and rough sound. Definitely remarkable on the long player is the song ‘Diamond In The Rough‘. With a cameo from former MEGADETH guitarist Marty Friedman as well as a lot of reminiscence to 70’s rock songs, this is a real highlight.
The first singles from the album offered a taste of what’s to come and hinted at the album’s full impact. Thematically, the songs hold no surprises: Rock ‘n’ Roll lifestyle (“I Love It Louder”), party fun (“Everyday Is Saturday Night”), joy of life (“It’s A Celebration”), women (“Hot Fox”), and relationships—all seasoned with a generous dose of tongue-in-cheek self-irony. These themes are often served up with plenty of clichés (“…welcome to my pleasuredome…”).

| 9.4 | Simply another banger album that will make every rock’n roll enthusiast’s eyes get wet. No nonsense hard rock straight into your face and maybe the best album by the Toronto based trio as of today. Even though it might not contain a hymn like ‘My Little R’n’R’ it is still a great piece and candidate for rock album of the year. A MUST HAVE album! |
