My prayers have been heard cause the first song that blast out of my speakers is this vicious beast that calls itself ‘Endless//Godless.’ Massive breakdowns, death growls, pig squals and even a BLEGH! I can only say that my stank face was activated. Long time that I was so blown away by a first song. What a brutal opener of an album. ‘Seed’ comes in as the blackened deathcore that these boys produce with the clean vocals that they used on their debut. Look, clean vocals and deathcore it is an old and eternal discussion. Me personally, I love it when done properly and I can only say that this is more than properly done. With ‘Forlorn’ we get to the section of deathcore infused with some black metal vibes and yet again finished with the clean vocals that I love. And then we have ‘Vast Eternal’ which is my personal favorite because it builds up to something massive and we get it. Black metal tunes that pavening the road ahead to discover an insane breakdown that is carried by the massive death growls of Ricky Hoover himself. Stank face activated! ‘Wither’ is a more emotional and softer song and I think this should be possible. A blackened deathcore band that brings and write a more soft and emotional song. Look at Lorna Shore a brutal deathcore band but with very emotional lyrics.
Don’t be alarmed, we’re not going soft on you cause the next brutal song is on the way with ‘Evermore.’ And then we get a couple of songs we’re friends come to play. ‘Dread’ a brutal deathcore song that brings on vocals Josh Davies from the english deathcore band Ingested. No surprise then that this is a deathcore song pur sang. Next in line is ‘Bleak’ that has a more darker approach and they bring Johnny Ciardullo on vocals from the band Carcosa. Most people will know him as the guitarist of Angelmaker. And then their is ‘A World Away’ with a vocalist from a band I encounter not so long ago. And I loved them instantly and now Alan Grnja from Distant is coming to sing on this song that also has the best solo on this album. I love this. I have to warn everybody cause we end with ‘Endless//Loveless’ which is a very good closer of this album. We end with the same title as the beginning. And where the beginning was brutal as fuck is this soft and emotional. I say it again: I love this but I know that die hards will hate this but hey. Fans enough that love this. I am one of them and I’m also a deathcore fanatic so… no problem there I think.
It is just the beginning of the year. We are at the half of the first month and I think I already have my album of the year. This Ov Sulfur blows me away with their second album ‘Endless.’ It is brutal, it is dark, it is sometimes soft and emotional. And I love every fiber of it. I’m looking forward to see these guys in action with these new songs in their pocket.
REVIEW SCORE
| 10 | The young talents Ov Sulfur came rolling in with their second full length ‘Endless’ which is already a strong contender for album of the year for me. Brutal, dark, filthy and emotional. |
