Serena Cherry releases second Noctule single ‘Goddess Of Rot’

Black Metal, Melodic Death Metal

Serena Cherry released the second Noctule single  and video from her Elden Ring themed black metal / melodeath album. It’s called Goddess of Rot and it’s a song all about Malenia, one of the most notoriously challenging bosses in the video game Elden Ring.

Serena on Goddess of Rot:

“Honestly? I think this is the solo song that Svalbard fans will appreciate the most. It has the big reverb-drenched leads, the pretty-yet-sad harmonies, a balance of emotional screams and delicate clean singing. It’s the slowest and least heavy song on the album, leaning into atmospheric Finnish Metal influences such as Insomnium and Sentenced, but also DSBM influences such as Thy Light.

But what does the music mean? Well, in the fight to protect those you love, you can get destroyed beyond recognition. When love morphs into sacrifice that leads to inevitable loss. This is what my new song ‘Goddess of Rot’ is about – but specifically, it is about Malenia. Malenia is one of the bleakest characters in the harsh game of Elden Ring. So of course, she is my favourite. She is fighting to protect her brother Miquella while slowly losing herself to Scarlet Rot.

I deeply connected with her tragic story, so I wrote a song about Malenia to encapsulate the abandonment she suffers but also pay sonic tribute to the devastating power of her Scarlet Rot.”

Track listing:
1. Welcome to Limgrave
2. Devour The Gods
3. Lord of Blood
4. Grafted
5. Goddess of Rot
6. Lament of The Omen king
7. O’ death
8. Become My Blade Once More
9. Age of the Stars
10. Hallowhorn Grounds

About the upcoming album ‘Extinguish Thy Flame’:

“Whenever I truly fall in love with a video game, it ignites a creative fire inside me that makes me want to write songs about the game. Video games are such a deep source of inspiration for me. Elden Ring is not just my favourite game: it’s the game that saved my life and helped me overcome the darkest challenges of mental illness. I’m not the same person as I was before Elden Ring came out, this game has taught me so much about perseverance and inner strength. That’s why I felt utterly compelled to write an album about Elden Ring.”

“I think the unforgiving world of Elden Ring and the harsh sounds of extreme metal belong together. Metal is intense, relentless and uncompromising – so is Elden Ring as a game. Writing a metal album about Elden Ring couldn’t be more fitting in my eyes.”

“Melodeath and black metal are two of my favourite genres, and while I never set out with the deliberate intention to merge the two genres together, that is how this album has ended up sounding. I’m proud that Noctule doesn’t really sound like anything else in the metal world.”
