French metal band Stengah revealed the impressive video for ‘At the Behest of Origins’

Modern Metal, News, Progressive

The French metal band STENGAH revealed their second single, “At the Behest of Origins.” The track was released via Mascot Records / Mascot Label Group. Watch the impressive video here.

“At the Behest of Origins” follows the debut single “Above Inhumanity.” The track follows a confrontation between loneliness and friendship through an imaginary conversation. The band explains:

“It talks about the burden of toxic baggage we carry from the past, and the need to let it go, getting rid of some elapsed existence and escaping from the undertow of life.”

The video for “At the Behest of Origins” is a gorgeous cinematic experience, in which we follow a man who wakes up washed ashore. The viewer observes a ‘conversation’ with a woman who represents his inner self, while they are sharing mysterious messages and dialogue in a language only available as a related poem. The poem can be found on the website of the band.

“He talks to her (and so to himself) in a dialogue that we can only read in the poem,” says Eliott Williame. “It is an inner conversation. The thing to understand about this video is that there is only one person. The woman is more like a mirror to him.”

The characters venture back to the sea where the woman is being followed by an ominous “dark passenger” – that also appeared in the video for “Above Inhumanity”. The man has to go on his own, “released from the anxious burden part of himself that she incarnates,” says Williame.

In the main role is Pascal Duquenne, an actor with Down’s syndrome, known of his prominent role in the French-Belgian movie “Le Huitième Jour” with which he won a “Cesar” in 1996. Besides him is Aliashka Hilsum, a French-Russian “poly-artist”, dancer, musician, actor and writer, who makes for the perfect amalgamation of Pascal’s character.

STENGAH, founded by drummer Eliott Williame, has the sound, the intelligence and the ambition to push heavy music further into the future. After years of constant evolution and attention to details, the band has – completed with bassist Benoit Creteur, lead guitarist Maxime Delassus, rhythm guitarist Alex Orta and powerhouse frontman Nicolas Queste – sharpened their sound into a state of groundbreaking perfection.

“The music is about (re)connecting with yourself,” says Eliott. “It’s about people, their fears, their faiths and their philosophies. How sometimes those things can guide them, and how sometimes they can blind them. It asks, with no judgement, about how odd and how strange the social and emotional behaviours of human beings are. It’s all about the power to believe, in creativity, and in consciousness.”
