Soprano Dianne Van Giersbergen released 3rd single video ‘A Symphonic Tragedy’

Symphonic Metal

“A symphonic tragedy rains down on me, on the abyss of life.
Don’t let go but embrace the climb. Without you our end is nigh
.”
[DIANNE – ‘A Symphonic Tragedy’]

‘A Symphonic Tragedy’ is the third single from DIANNE‘s debut album ‘Soulward Bound’, co-written and produced by Joost van den Broek (Powerwolf, Epica, Blind Guardian) – with Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon) on solo guitar; Ferry Duijsens (Ayreon, VUUR) on rhythm guitar; Kristoffer Gildenlöw (Pain of Salvation) on bass and Sander Zoer (Delain, LEAH) on drums.

The track is an epic power ballad in which DIANNE is bringing an emotional ode to her voice and in which the singer for the first time talks openly about the lifesaving stomach surgary she underwent five years ago and which wasn’t completely without danger:

“Eventhough this surgery saved me, I was risking to lose the only thing that has been my lifelong companion, my refuge, and my beloved: my voice.”

‘A Symphonic Tragedy’ takes place in the perfect vacuum of anesthesia, floating through time and space. A vacuum in which the past is only a framed image, and the future – with all its complications – hasn’t started yet. In the lyrics, DIANNE begs her voice to stay with her, to not let go but embrace the journey: “Don’t let go but embrace the climb.”

“That surgery took place a good five years ago and my voice got through it completely unscathed, without even a scratch. Today I’ve managed to leave all those possible tragic scenarios behind me. There is a deep feeling of strength lit up in me; ‘A Symphonic Tragedy’ tells my story. I hope that for someone who is struggling with their health, the song will give comfort and motivates them to always embrace the climb, and to not despair or give up.”

Dianne recently shed light on the symbolism and meaning of the new single extensively and in a personal way on Facebook.

‘A Symphonic Tragedy’ puts DIANNE back in the spotlight with her characteristic, classical trained voice; her lyrical way of singing; and her deep, meaningful way of telling stories. All these vocal aspects come together in this song of which the accompanying video was produced again by the Dutch symphonic gothic rock band Blackbriar.

The song is the follow-up to DIANNE’s last two singles ‘Unleash the Siren’ (September 2023) and debut single ‘After the Storm’, released last year on Valentine’s Day. All three songs are from the debut album ‘Soulward Bound’, that is coming together in an unconventional way: spread over five years, with two singles each year. By choosing this way of releasing, she’s able to present a different band for each song (mostly put together of famous musician friends). A common thread in the whole endeavour is still of course her collaboration with co-writer and co-producer Joost van den Broek. ‘Soulward Bound’ embodies the drive and dedication that will lead DIANNE on this adventurous musical journey in her search for herself. Creating the album functions as a personal catharsis and freeing of her demons.

Featuring:
Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon) on solo guitar,
Ferry Duijsens (VUUR, Dear Mother) on rhythm guitar,
Kristoffer Gildenlöw (Pain of Salvation) on bass guitar,
Sander Zoer (Delain, LEAH) on drums.
