Their release always begins with an intro that just gives you goosebumps. In this intro you hear a woman crying and a guy who recorded something on her answering machine. A check up on how you’re doing, hope you are ok, keep it safe and then a gunshot. That’s the beginning of this EP followed by ‘Withering Flower’ that hits with an immense power and fury. ‘The Wilted’ captures the raw emotions, exhaustion and rebirth that comes with a life on the road. And this song embodies that sentence. ‘Let Me Sleep’ goes even more brutal then ‘Withering Flower’ with that beatdown sound that has been their trademark since the beginning.
The second part of this EP is something different. More emotional, less breakdowns, less beatdown, more clean vocals and most of all more evolution. It begins with ‘Instrument Of War’ that is a collaboration with Stick To Your Guns with clean vocals delivered by the band’s lead singer Jesse Barnett. It’s a mixture between core bands but two bands that are on the opposite side of the core table. But this blends so well and so good. And then it’s Paleface‘s turn to show that they can also write something emotional with ‘Everything Is Fine’ which is a very emotional song with clean vocals delivered by Marc “Zelli” Zellweger himself. This just begs for more.
This EP shows us 2 sides of Paleface Swiss. The first one is the side we all know. The beatdown/agressive Paleface but the other side is the more emotional Paleface. They stated before that they already evolved to something like that before but they never showed us until now. Don’t care what the more die hard will say about this. It’s something that’s called evolution. I am curious what these guys will show us in the future. I can’t wait.
Catch them live on tour right now or this summer all over European festivals like some of our favorite events Tuska Festival and Alcatraz Festival!
REVIEW SCORE
| 9 | Paleface Swiss is a new player in the field. And shows how perfectly you can mix brutal beatdown with some emotional written pieces within, without getting soft. |
