Defiatory – Hades Rising

/ / By :

After Ronnie Björnström left Swedish death metal band Aeon in 2015, it did not take too long before he evoked Defiatory. Soon Martin Runnzell filled the spot for vocalist. Within a week they finished their demo Furor Unleashed. In August of that same year, the bay-area thrash inspired band was complete, and they started writing their debut album. Fast forward to 2018, and their second album Hades Rising is here. This all happened in collaboration with Black Lion Records

About two months ago, the band released the official video for their song In Hell. This song starts pounding your eardrums from the beginning. Powerful, catchy riffs and fast playing, it gives us a very decent impression of the rest of the album. The vocals match the music perfectly, even though I personally expected a higher pitched voice. It was nevertheless a pleasant suprise! In Hell promises us a lot of good things for the rest of the album.

More music from the band came our way three weeks ago. This track, Bane of Creation, contains more melodic aspects than their first released song. Although it does start off as a thunderous rhythmic song, the melodies come through pretty fast. Especially the guitar work. Ludvig Johansson and Ronnie Björnström sound like they have been playing together forever. The solo in this song is very appealing to the ears, it almost sounds dreamy. The track is very well put together and the level of musicianship and teamwork is high, and shows a lot of potential.

On April the 29th, the official single Metatron was released. This track certainly shows us the bay-area thrash influences. Let’s be honest, I had a hard time sitting still while blasting this song. Again, Defiatory did not fail to please my ears with this recently released track. Personally, I think they sound a bit like ExodusBlood In Blood Out album on an instrumental level. This of course has to do with the bay-area influences, which are interpreted very well.  They naturally added some more modern twists to the songs, which comes together perfectly.

This album contains 11 tracks, all of which are a true must to listen to. They fit perfectly in the more modern thrash-scene, even though their influences are obviously more old school. My personal favorite from the upcoming album is probably Stronger than God or the title track Hades Rising. For a band that formed in 2015, they sound surprisingly well-fitting together. Defiatory brings the old school force into the modern days and put themselves on the map!
