Gen and The Degenerates share new single ‘Hotter on the Internet’

North-west indie art-punk trio Gen and the Degenerates reveal another sneak peak into their upcoming second album “Earthy Delights”, scheduled for release on 8th January 2027 on Marshall Records with ‘Hotter On The Internet’. Punchy, angular, satirically sultry and written in tandem with Dan Haggis (The Wombats), the tune speaks to the notion of expectations versus reality. On the writing collaboration with Dan Haggis, Genevieve Glynn-Reeves shares that the song came to life after the two met during a songwriting panel called “The Narrative” in Liverpool.

“It explores the dissonance between how I portray myself online vs how I am in reality.” states Glynn-Reeves. “I feel like people are expecting to meet a certain kind of person, someone that they’re basing on the content of me that they see online, and then I feel like I’m actually quite boring, compared to their expectations. Or at least I’m boring in a practical sense.”

“I think my life and inner world are really interesting and energising, but it’s not very rock’n’roll. I love spending time with my friends. I’m close with my family. I like reading books and swimming and decorating my flat with cool doo dads from charity shops.”

Entering a new era with a refreshed lineup, Gen and the Degenerates return with “Earthly Delights”  — produced by Michael Champion (Wet Leg, Swim School) and Paul Whalley (The Wanted, Louis Tomlinson), and their most ambitious and fully realised project yet. Blending sharp wit with emotional honesty, the album unpacks identity, grief, sexuality and the chaos of modern life. A more cohesive yet expansive evolution of their sound, it’s a caustic, absurd soundtrack to strange times — never without joy or defiance.

The band states that they took their album title from a 500-year-old painting, ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’ by Hieronymus Bosch. “This album isn’t about anything new. It’s about the same things humans have always made art about; sex and death and love and power.”

The album is about this moment in history, through concepts and contradictions that are timeless and internal; there’s no grief without love, there’s no joy in life without knowing it ends. Sex and death. Earthly Delights.

Gen and the Degenerates are a North-west based trio, delivering an idiosyncratic brand of indie infused with New York art-punk cool, and a distinctly British sense of humour. They effortlessly weave the kind of danceable pop sensibility more commonly found in a Chappell Roan track into songs that draw from Talking Heads and LCD Soundsystem. Known for their brash energy, chaotic live shows, and front-person Genevieve Glynn-Reeves’ lyrics, which are always smart and perceptive, but never take themselves too seriously.

An incendiary live act, they have headlined multiple UK tours, played festivals such as Truck, YNOT, The Great Escape and the main stage at 2000 Trees, as well as multiple festivals in mainland Europe including Sziget and Reeperbahn Festival. They’ve also toured the US as a support act playing in 2000+ capacity venues and were one of the most talked about acts in Austin at SXSW 25’.
