Live on stage a TOLLROCKERZ Band Contest with 3 local upcoming bands, DEINE COUSINE, ROGERS, BEYOND THE BLACK, ROYAL REPUBLIC and BONANSKA. What a day! We are looking forward to 2025 already and see what TOLLROCK will bring to the stage!

Big anniversary this year with TollRock taking place for 20th time! That is a serious reason to celebrate. On the additional opening day, Oi! outfit BOOZE AND GLORY opened up and the iconic H-BLOCKX took over to kick off the festivities.

Sami Yaffa has worn multiple hats in various different bands such as Hanoi Rocks, Pelle Miljoona OY, New York Dolls, The Hellacopters, just to name a few but now in his 60s he is still going stronger than ever! This legendary bassist just released his second solo album in his illustrious career titled “Satan’s Helpers, Warlazer Eyes & The Money Pig Circus” and brought the album in its entirety to a packed Tavastia in Helsinki!

With Gary’s selection of his favorite pictures, we dive into his 2023 in punk with The Adolescents, The Interrupters, Fea, Sloppy Seconds, The Svetlanas, The Damned, L7, Madam Bombs, Roy Ellis & The Aggrolites, The Casualties, Surfbort and Suzi Moon captured at Punk Rock Bowling, The Darts, The Soap Girls and Tokyo Honey Trap captured at some of the smalles venues in his area, and The Rumkicks and Hi-Fi Spitfires captured at Rebellion Festival!

Kvelertak is continuing to take Europe by storm on their “Krøterveg Te Helvete Tour” presenting their latest work, in the company of Cancer Bats as support. We were there at the Backstage venue in Munich, Germany last week!

When a legend like John Lydon comes to a venue near you with his almost as legendary band Public Image Ltd., you know you can’t miss out! And so did our photographer when they took over the stage at Ääniwalli in Helsinki with the support of local hardcore punk heroes Bob Malmström!

People at the Backstage venue in Munich were eager to see The Baboon Show play the songs of their new album ‘God Bless You All’ live, and we were not disappointed! What an energetic punk and rock ‘n’ roll show was that! Support came from the equally killer Spiders, both bands you need to go see live whenever you can!

We enjoyed ourselves plenty at Tuhdimmat Tahdit, so we urge you to check out what we think are good reasons for you to try and make it to this lovely festival in Finland’s prettiest city of Tampere!

Gary’s albums of the year venture away from our more standard metal selection with a bunch of stellar punk releases from bands like The Bar Stool Preachers, Grade 2, The Darts, The Dollyrots, Rumkicks and Rancid, but also sidesteps into other music like the special brand of rock that Public Image Ltd. brings, blues rock with Samantha Fish and Jesse Dayton, an acoustic Dropkick Murphys and a trip back into time, reminiscing about London’s legendary Batcave Club!

While we are still regularly looking back at what 2023 brought us, we of course also need to look forward. So here is the first edition of our 2024 series of articles where we bring the editorial team’s most anticipated releases with Escuela Grind, Green Day, The Empire Strikes, Saxon, Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes, Static-X, The Gems, Lucifer, Manticora and Hiraes in January!

It wasn’t all bad in 2020. Although it seemed like that sometimes. An example are these awesome albums that were released this year. The bands couldn’t tour, but I’m sure they will the first moment they can. Enjoy!
