To celebrate the 20th anniversary of their first album Escapextacy, Poisonblack announced a small tour in Finland, organized by Fullsteam Agency. Apart from playing the Escapextacy album in its entirety, the band will also play some songs from their other albums. Of course all the shows on this tour were sold out quickly, so they added some more shows, and I was happy I was able to attend one of them in my hometown Tampere.

It was about time that the Norwegian misfits of Kvelertak dropped by again. If there’s one thing that is guaranteed when these dudes drop by, is that you’ll get a damn explosive evening! Add to that them bringing the melodic hardcore bombshell that is the Canadian Cancer Bats, and you know you’re in for a wild night!

When we are talking about a supergroup, The Winery Dogs can be used as THE example of it. When you have a rhythm section that consists of Billy Sheehan (Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Talas, and Mr. Big) and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Flying Colors, Transatlantic, Neal Morse Band, Sons of Apollo and Adrenaline Mob) that is fronted by the crazy down to earth dude Richie Kotzen (Poison, Mr. Big) you could think this is a recipe for a clashing of ego’s. It has been a while since Sonata Arctica has played a regular gig in Finland. Their last Finnish tour only consisted of acoustic songs and a faster-paced gig, apart from festival appearances, has been sorely missed, at least for me. Who doesn’t know SHINING from Norway, the BlackJazz pioneers. Well a lot of people apparently and not to confuse with equally named Shining, the black metal ensemble from Sweden. In contrary, their Norwegians counterparts bring us BlackJazz which isn’t exactly a style for the faint-hearted. It consists of very technical parts with grungy voices, where there’s a lot of place for organised chaos. They describe themselves more as an extreme avant-garde metal band. This evening in the Kafka was a part of small celebration tour of the ‘BlackJazz’ album.

With temperatures approaching those found in Death Valley, the GRIMM Rider rode out once again. This time to the grassy fields of Antwerp, bluegrass fields that is. There I was in good company with The Dead South and the Tejon Street Corner Thieves.
