Moths collaborate with wrestler Gema for her entrance song
Puerto Rican doom/progressive metal band MOTHS returns with “Crown Jewel,” a commanding new single, created in direct collaboration with Puerto Rican indie wrestler Gema (who previously appeared on AEW) as her official entrance theme. Dark, theatrical, and unapologetically grand, the track is a statement of dominance and self-mythology, portraying its narrator as an untouchable force; part ruler, part deity, embracing ambition, ego, and self-destruction under the spotlight. It channels spectacle and fire without sacrificing the band’s signature depth and heaviness, marking a bold evolution in MOTHS’ sonic universe. The single was mastered by Alan Douches (Mastodon, Baroness).
The band states:
“This was a new experience for the whole band. As Gema reached out to us to write her entrance song, we were excited about the challenge of making sure that it was a good fit for a wrestler entrance without trying to sound or be different, and I think we nailed it, this is definitely MOTHS’ take on this kind of musical approach. This is also Mariel’s lyrical contribution to the band, and it really applied what the overall ‘Gema’ character is: a spoiled ‘queen,’ the one that deserves everything, without scaling back her intensity and showing that she clearly deserves to be considered the best.”
“Crown Jewel” arrives in the wake of MOTHS’ critically acclaimed album Septem (2025), which was featured by the likes of Metal Hammer, MetalSucks, Metal Injection, and Decibel, while also landing on multiple Album of the Year lists across the heavy music press. In January 2026, the band supported Avenged Sevenfold at the Coliseum of Puerto Rico, performing in front of one of the largest audiences of their career. They will continue this momentum by headlining one of the 35 official Wacken Open Air Warm-Up Parties worldwide on April 18, with the show taking place at La Respuesta in Santurce, marking a major milestone for heavy music in Puerto Rico.
Formed in 2018, MOTHS has become a defining force in Puerto Rico’s heavy music scene, blending progressive, stoner, doom, jazz, and extreme metal into a sound that is both cerebral and crushing. The band has shared stages with The Ocean Collective, Circus Maximus, and The Well, performed at festivals across the Americas including Heresy Fest in Argentina, toured the U.S. and Mexico, and built strong fanbases throughout the Northeast U.S. and Latin America.
MOTHS’ new album, Septem, is a visceral journey through the Seven Deadly Sins, with each track embodying a facet of indulgence, obsession, and self-destruction — from the corrosive jealousy of “Envy” to the insatiable hunger of “Gluttony” and the rage of “Wrath”. The album plunges listeners into a dark, immersive experience where desire spirals into chaos. With the latest single, “Crown Jewel,” MOTHS steps further into the realm of spectacle, without compromise, delivering a track built for dominance, ritual, and the spotlight.
