You do not have to look hard this summer to discover a small or larger festival across Belgium. Our small country offers many opportunities to all music lovers. But Grimm does not mind to look a bit further as well. This summer we send out our disciples all across Europe, for example to Tuska Open Air (Finland), Metaldays (Slovenia),  Hellfest (France) and Wacken Open Air (Germany). But for those of you who do not want to drive that far or prefer not to be in an overcrowded and sold out festival, we have a nice suggestion for you! Only a 2h30 drive away from Ghent you can find Rock ‘N’ Roll Train Festival in Longwy (France).

THE BANDS

As a smaller festival this is your chance to see bands play a much longer set where otherwise they would have only a 45 minute slot. For example Lacuna Coil will be headlining the festival with a full 90 minute show. So expect a set with all their hits and ample time to get introduced with songs of their latest album Delirium. Grimm’s review of this album is coming soon, but we can already tell you this: it is the heaviest Lacuna Coil album so far! The Italian band plays only two festival shows outside Italy this summer so this might be your only chance to see them before they embark on their European tour this fall. Other familiar names on the line up are New York City’s hardcore outfit Madball and the French band Dagoba. If you have ever been to a Dagoba show at Graspop you will know these guys can really make a live show explode. I am expecting nothing less in front of their own French followers.

Besides these well-known international acts there are many more bands to discover. Le Bal des Enragés, who already played at Hellfest, brings an energetic show of metal and punk covers. The Inspector Cluzo consists of a guitar player and a drummer… and that’s all. They say ‘fuck the bass player’ and still manage to bring you a show of funky vibes that is bound to rock your socks off. Nitrogods play ‘no bullshit, just rock ‘n’ roll’ as their website states. Expect the German equivalent of Motörhead. If you want some more punk, then the French Burning Heads will deliver for you. And if that does not make you bang your head then Oil Carter definitely will. This French stoner band borrows from the likes of Down and sounds very promising to watch live. Rock ‘N’ Roll Train takes place Saturday the 9th of July. People who want to spend a long weekend there can join the party in Longwy early with a warm up on Friday and tour around (with or without hangover) on Sunday. After all, Longwy is located in the beautiful area of Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine.

You could also make a quick stop in the other neighboring country of Luxembourg. The national border is only six kilometers from the festival area! RnR Train presents itself as a family friendly festival with entertainment for the children at the beginning of the festival and free entrance for children under 12. Parking spots are available for free at only 800 meters from the festival area.

The festival’s website provides a list with hotels nearby. However, there is also camping possibility from Friday 10am until Sunday 2pm for only €3.
