70000Tons Of Metal: Recap 2019 + Back to Mexico in 2020!

News

This is more than just another festival –  this is the United Nations Of Heavy Metal At Sea!

Wind, sun, sea and heavy metal. Hot tubs, mosh pits and ice cold beer. What to some people might sound like a random mix of incompatible words is perfect reality and a unique experience which 3,000 metalheads thoroughly enjoy onboard 70000TONS OF METAL, The Original, The World’s Biggest Heavy Metal Cruise, every year.

Today, there is another combination of words that sums up a common sentiment among ’Survivors’ (metalheads that have attended the cruise before) and lucky first-time sailors: PCD (Post Cruise Depression). And who would not understand this feeling after four full days that sound like every metalhead’s dream come true? Round 9 of this unique event at sea took place from January 31 – February 4, 2019 and brought fans and 60 metal bands from Ft Lauderdale, FL to Labadee, Haiti and back. The newly refurbished Independence of the Seas was once more proud to host over 70 nationalities, with USA, Germany, Canada representing the top 3 most represented nations on board. Truly an event for all ages, the youngest sailor was only one year old, whereas the oldest sailor was 80 years old.

Besides the brand new water slides and all kinds of other exciting amenities of the luxury cruise ship, metalheads could enjoy their favorite bands such as ACCEPT, CORONER, DELAIN, ELUVEITIE, ENSIFERUM, GLORYHAMMER, GOD DETHRONED, GRIM REAPER, IN VAIN, KALMAH, NAPALM DEATH, NE OBLIVISCARIS, NILE, OBITUARY, ONSLAUGHT, PESTILENCE, SOULFLY / MAX & IGGOR CAVALERA RETURN TO ROOTS, SUBWAY TO SALLY, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, TIAMAT (WILDHONEY SHOW), TWILIGHT FORCE, UNLEASH THE ARCHERS, VISIONS OF ATLANTIS, VOMITORY, and WARBRINGER, each playing two shows on one of the four stages – among which the jewel, the pool deck stage, also known as the biggest open air stage structure to sail the open seas.

And if all this wasn’t enough, fans could also witness very special moments including the legendary All Star Jam “Jamming in International Waters”,where members of e.g. Soulfly, Kalmah, Sodom and Kamelot played all time heavy metal and hard rock classics together. They were also treated to special performances like MAX & IGGOR CAVALERA RETURN TO ROOTS playing Sepultura‘s highly acclaimed album Roots in its entirety, TIAMAT celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of their groundbreaking album Wildhoney, and even exclusive onboard premieres like those of ELUVEITIE’s upcoming album or Onslaught’s new single video. Other highlights were the traditional Belly Flop Contest, artist clinics, and artist escorted excursions on the beautiful island of Labadee offering once in a lifetime experiences such as a snorkel safari with members of SODOM or soaring down the Dragon’s Breath Flight Line with members of VOMITORY.

No wonder Sailors are already counting the days until the next cruise! Just don’t let the PCD get you down too much in the meantime and remember, Sailors: The good news is that the waiting will be a lot shorter this time! Round 10 of 70000TONS OF METAL, The Original, The World’s Biggest Heavy Metal Cruise will be sailing January 7 – 11, 2020 from Miami/Ft. Lauderdale to Cozumel, Mexico and back, thus returning to the place where it all started in 2011.
