SUPPORT YOUR LOCALS: Highlighting the Belgians on the Alcatraz 2025 line-up (Friday)

/ 0 Comments / By :
Alcatraz festival has become known as one of the few bigger festivals in Belgium that actually pays attention to the local scene and the incredible talent that Belgium has. Every year they manage to bring together an impressive list of some of the best the country has to offer, and compared to some other festivals at a much higher ratio. It's something that is being appreciated by both bands and visitors, and it's such a great thing to see the crowd show up to support the bands time after time even when they have early slots.

For the 2025 line-up the organizers have gathered 25 stellar bands, and after an exciting warming-up night before the official start of the festival that delivered already 9 of the bands to the stage, the first proper festival day brings in another 3 Belgian bands, who will each open their respective stage on the Friday. Here is why you should definitely get up early enough and go check out these 3 local festival day openers:

Room 13

(Swamp Stage - 12:00-12:40)

This might not be a completely Belgian band, but the recently resurrected Room 13 was brought back to life by Alcatraz producer Mario Poncin and American guitarist Ira Black, filled out with some of Belgium’s elite forces. They bring straight-up heavy metal with a classic backbone and a modern bite. Their sound channels the glory days of NWOBHM with twin guitar harmonies, galloping rhythms, and powerful vocals, while keeping it fresh. They’ve built a loyal following through tight musicianship and no-nonsense songwriting, delivering fist-pumping anthems built for the stage. Whether you’re into Maiden-style melodies or just looking for a solid heavy metal fix, Room 13 won’t disappoint. A true hidden gem of the scene, ready to make some noise at Alcatraz when they open on the Swamp Stage on the first day of the fest.

Splendidula

(La Morgue - 12:05-12:45)

Splendidula are very familiar to us, and seeing the amount of time we’ve hosted them at one of our events, I guess we could call them friends. They’ll be setting the mood in La Morgue around noon on the first day of Alcatraz, and the mood will be gloomy and melancholic, no matter how good the weather might be outside the tent. They have been turning heads internationally with their emotionally rich blend of doom, sludge, and post-metal, wrapped in haunting dual vocals and melancholic atmosphere. Their music is massive, graceful, and devastating, and so are their shows. It’s beauty and despair intertwined, ideal for fans of nuanced doom with heaps of atmosphere but also tasty riffs. Prepare to be drawn in and slowly crushed beneath waves of sound.

Coffin Feeder

(Helldorado Stage - 12:35-13:20)

And last but not least, the Helldorado Stage will be getting a rude awakening by the rebel rousers of Coffin Feeder. This collective can’t be called anything else than a supergroup built of Belgian death/grind royalty, featuring members of Leng Tch’e, Fleddy Melculy, Aborted, When Plagues Collide and more. And they mix old school death metal brutality with grindcore and horror aesthetics. Early on they were mostly into serial killers, while lately they’ve sort of shifted their focus towards the golden era of action movies in the 80s and 90s, finding inspiration in the classics from that time. It’s one of those bands that sounds delightfully disgusting and brutal, but delivered with a wink, a nod and a big grin filled with black humor. Live, they’re an absolute riot, which is not too surprising looking at the pedigree of every single member. Expect gore, groove, and gallons of energy.

And with the first proper day done, where at about half the Belgian bands of the 2025 line-up. Be on the lookout for our other features or check out our playlists here and here.
