Holy Wars offer a reckoning with new single ‘Crucify’

Alternative Metal, Alternative Rock

Following their highly successful festival appearances in the EU/UK as well as support dates with nu metal legends Kittie, Holy Wars have released the venomous new single “Crucify”, out now via Pale Chord/Rise Records BMG. The new track follows the band’s emotionally-charged single “I feel Everything” released this past May.

“Crucify” is a no-apologies dark anthem for the scorned. Sonically and lyrically hard-hitting, it cuts deep — shifting between ethereal melodies and blood-boiling screams, taking the listener on a visceral ride through vengeance and release. Co-written and co-produced with Cody Quistad of Wage War, “Crucify” is grandiose in scale and further pushes the limits of the band’s eclectic genre-bending style.

Behind the sinister energy of “Crucify” lies a deeply personal truth, according to vocalist Kat Leon who shares the backstory behind the new song:

“Crucify” was written as a reckoning. Years ago, I got out of a toxic relationship — the last words my ex said to me were, “I wish you nothing but the worst”. Within six months, both of my parents had passed away. I’ve carried the weight of those words like a curse, buried in grief and silence until now. Writing “Crucify” became my way of purging that pain and finally reclaiming my power”.

With the arrival of “Crucify” and their previous single “I Feel Everything”, Holy Wars are coming out of the gate swinging and offering a bold and declarative statement on who they are today — confident, reenergized and in full embrace of their identity and sound.

This past year was undoubtedly a crucial “level-up” for the band following the release of their breakout EP “Cult Classic” and label debut for Pale Chord/Rise in late 2023. In 2024, Holy Wars joined veteran rock legends Evanescence for a run of sold-out shows in arenas in Puerto Rico, nationwide tours with rising hard rock trailblazers The Warning in both the US and Mexico as well as appearances on major rock festivals including Great Escape, Inkcarceration, Rock Fest, Rocklahoma, Knotfest Iowa, and Mayhem Festival. “You never truly learn who you are as an artist until you hit the road hard and this past year gave us a ton of confidence and clarity going into the future of this band” Leon states.

In June of this year, Holy Wars embarked on an epic trip across the pond to perform a series of high profile sets at massive festivals in both the UK and EU, including Rock im Park and Rock am Ring in Germany, Rock For People in the Czech Republic — as well as Download Festival in the UK. Additionally, the band supported nu metal pioneers Kittie for a string of club shows in the EU/UK in tandem with their festival appearances.

“Crucify” is yet another impressive taste of what’s to come from Holy Wars in 2025. Expect more music and exciting announcements to follow soon.
