Castle announce new album ‘Carrie Chains’ and share title track

Doom Metal

US/Canadian heavy doom outfit Castle have just announced their new album Carrie Chains, which will be released on 4th September via Hammerheart Records. In celebration, the lead single of the album ‘Carry Chains’ is now streaming on all digital platforms.

Carrie Chains shows Castle at new heights of constructing their trademark serpentine riffs into powerful anthemic hooks while the whiskey throated vocals of powerhouse singer Liz Blackwell fill every spooky nook and cranny to intoxicating effect. Taking influence from the 70’s/80’s riff-heavy maestros like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Mercyful Fate and keeping a stripped down attack sound, Castle channel that classic heavy-metal DNA into something leaner, meaner, and unmistakably their own.

Written last year, alongside the band’s covers EP Double Vision, Carrie Chains shows Castle at new heights of constructing their trademark serpentine riffs into powerful anthemic hooks while the whiskey throated vocals of powerhouse singer Liz Blackwell fill every spooky nook and cranny to intoxicating effect.

Following more then a year of touring behind the bands previous album Evil Remains, the band found themselves tackling a long talked about project to unwind… an all-covers EP. While arranging and demoing the EP’s wide-ranging material, guitarist Mat Davis found inspiration for Carrie Chains coming fast and furious;

“It was like exercising a muscle, having new perspectives…. reaching back into the past and re-imagining the future – we tapped back into the early days of Castle’s sound and inspiration and came out with a record sounding somewhere between In Witch Order and Blacklands.“

Following the energy of the new songs through the recording process, Castle recorded live in the studio for the first time, with the band’s recording drummer Mike Cotton laying down a thunderous precision that harkens back to 80’s era Black Sabbath. Davis continues:

“We kept the sound and feel live and raw all the way through the mastering process, the energy was key to songs and telling the story of the album.“

Singer/bassist Liz Blackwell adds;

“We spent so many years on the road in the early days of Castle, we’d riff on song ideas through night drives and backstage hangs… a lot of the song ideas like ‘Truckgrinder’, ‘Carry Chains’ and ‘Goat Vision’ all originated back then and have the classic theme of the underdog rising up against all odds, including the albums main character, Carrie Chains – it’s a great inspiration in these times“.

Line up:
Liz Blackwell – Bass, vocals
Mat Davis – Guitar, vocals
Mike Cotton – Drums
