Zornheym – The Opposed & A Silent God

/ / By :

Zornheym is a new player in the extreme metal scene. It got put into action by Zorn (ex-Dark Funeral) and seems like it could be something really promising. Zorn gathered some good friends and talented musicians around him to create the quintet, playing a symphonic form of extreme metal with a clear background of black metal, but definitely putting in some death metal too. To be more specific the line-up exists out of Facebreaker‘s Bendler on vocals, guitarist and musical arranger Scucca and Diabolical drummer Angst. The coming winter 2016/2017 they release their debut album Where Hatred Dwells and Darkness Reigns, that’ll handle the horrors of a mental institution and its prisoners on an epic scale. They already released two of the songs that you’ll find on the full album though…

First single The Opposed was released on August 19th and gives you a good first taste of what the band is all about. If there’s one thing for sure then it’s that their music is fucking epic! They definitely learned something from bands like Dark Funeral and Dimmu Borgir. They’re heavy, they bring an atmosphere of doom and horror and the choirs in this song fit perfectly in. The use of orchestral parts and choirs to back up the already decent black metal makes them a serious player in the present symphonic black metal scene. For the string section they relied on the Dies Iona Ensembly, which is a damn great addition. The video accompanying the song shows a bit of the concept behind the album in the form of psychiatric ward Zornheym with vocalist Bendler doing the honors as the main character.

The single A Silent God cranked up the symphonic black metal to even higher and more epic realms! It’ll blow you away with its sheer power and majesty. The two songs Zornheym has released will do only one thing to the extreme metal fan: make them thirst for the full album that is set to be released somewhere in 2017. It’s really something to be looking forward to and might one of the top releases of the year! What makes it even more interesting, is that the release will go together with a sort of graphic novel with animations matching with every song. An “extreme symphonic metal” release that I’ll definitely be looking forward to and so should you…
