Calva Louise balances on the edge of the abyss on new single ‘Impeccable’
Calva Louise continues unabated with the new single Impeccable . The song drags you into their complex, cinematic sci-fi universe with both hands, with a mesmerizing mix of punk, metal and electronica. They have also included a compelling video, redirected and provided with visual effects by singer/guitarist Jess Allanic. Watch it HERE.
The story of Calva Louise continues to fascinate. The band members – from Venezuela, New Zealand and France – found their common home in the United Kingdom. Their mix of influences and experiences forms a musical melting point that crackles with energy, and with the narrative vision of Jess Allanic, they create something you won’t easily find anywhere else.
Their new studio album Edge of the Abyss, co-produced by Gareth McGrillen of Pendulum, will be released on July 11 via Mascot Records.

The single Impeccable is set in 1994 and is the direct sequel to W.T.F., in which we get to know the main character Louise. She experiences strange events in her house and a threatening feeling that indicates: someone is inside. Soon she catches snippets of her stalker: an ominous version of herself – her doppelganger. “It’s about that feeling of powerlessness when you have no control over what happens,” says Jess Allanic.
Impeccable continues to blast with its futuristic clash of riffs, apocalyptic drums and spooky electronics. It tells the story of Jonnie, a young man who has been fatally poisoned and has no choice but to act flawlessly (impeccably) to survive.
“I follow you anywhere you go. Death spoke to the warrior, Who was looking for a chance. I follow you anywhere you go. He said to the abyss, On the edge of life, ” smeken de hypnotiserende lyrics.
“To survive, Jonnie has to follow his doppelganger to another world, the Fractalworld – otherwise it’s over,” the band says. “Jonnie will have to understand who his double is very quickly, and cross the border to defy his fate.”
Edge of the Abyss explores traveling between dimensions, where people meet mysterious doppelgangers – shadows that seem to haunt us, but in reality try to make something clear. Who are these beings? What do they want from us? And how do we reach them?
The recent single Lo Que Vale – translated as ‘What’s the Worth’ – was the latest chapter within the album, after Aimless, a reflective outlet on human communication. The cinematic sci-fi videos accompanying the album tracks are set in different times and worlds, where characters encounter their doppelgangers. W.T.F is the prequel to previous singles La Corriente and Under The Skin – all directed and visualized by Jess herself.
Their DIY mentality and explosive live shows took the British alternative scene by storm, performing on Download, 2000Trees and headlining the BBC Introducing Stage at Reading and Leeds. They toured with the likes of Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Razorlight, Boston Manor, and Bloodywood. In the US they did a co-headline tour with Vukovi and played at festivals such as Welcome to Rockville, So What?, Sonic Temple, Riot Fest, SXSW and Shiprocked.
Calva Louise consists of Jess Allanic (vocals/guitar/keyboards), Alizon Taho (bass/vocals) and Ben Parker (drums/vocals).
