Electronic metal duo Codex Lovelace releases powerful anthem ‘Queen’

With a shared love of Victoriana, history, and a bit of cyber punk, CODEX LOVELACE, led by Joan Avant and Holly Royle (DISCONNECTED SOULS), fuses dark EDM with metal. Following the recent release of their debut full-length Galvanized Heart, the duo presents a new video for the track “Queen.”

Joan Avant shares on the single video release:

“Queen is song of second chances. Despite the world you were born into a pawn can become Queen.”

The anthemic offering revolves around imagery of a chess board, each opponent carefully considering their next move navigating through power struggles. It’s a song of empowerment, about fighting against social norms and systems while striving to achieve your true potential.

“Queen” was produced by Joan Avant with footage of Holly Royle filmed by Tom Lloyd Media at Framework Studio, Manchester.

Devised from a shared love of Victoriana, fantasy and admiration for history’s ‘invisible’ women, CODEX LOVELACE is an eclectic project led by Joan Avant and Holly Royle (DISCONNECTED SOULS).

The band’s name is a direct reference to Ada Lovelace whose story, among others, is explored across the music and lyrics of their debut album, Galvanized Heart. Musically, the thunderous power of heavy metal, ethereal quality of orchestral arrangements and ambience of electronic textures become entwined across CODEX LOVELACE’s sound.

The project arose from what was initially intended to be a sole collaboration song between Texas, US, based Joan Avant and Chester, UK, based Holly Royle. Before long, the scope of their creativity grew into a full-length offering.

Produced by Joan Avant, the track list contains compositions spearheaded by both members demonstrating a wide breadth of genre and style influences from EDM to djent guitars. At the core, CODEX LOVELACE is designed to combine catchy simplicity, dance quality with intriguing textural layers, emotive soundscapes and stories of lives often overlooked. The debut album Galvanized Heart arrived on September 4^th, 2026.
