Gyze – The Rising Dragon EP

/ / By :

Japanese band Gyze released their new EP ‘The Rising Dragon’ on June 27 2018. And I have to say, this sounds amazing. If you have heard about Gyze before, you know what to expect. If you hear from them for the first time, you’ll be in for a surprise. A pleasant one though. It’s music you haven’t heard before. Something new. Something special.

A high pitched lead guitar shows the way through the song. Accompanied by vocals of lead singer (and also lead guitarist) Ryoji and the drums played by Shuji. Aruta fills in the song by playing bass and singing the backing vocals. This music has something metalcore-ish, heavy metal-ish,… Something fast, something raw and something melodic you can say. Or as Gyze say themselves: a Northern Nostalgic metal band. About the vocals: they sound good, but they fade away in the background. The lead guitar definitely has the leading role with this band.

This EP Contains 2 new songs: ‘Japanese Elegy’ and ‘The Rising Dragon’. Accompanied by a live version of ‘Dragon Calling’, an instrumental version of ‘The Rising Dragon’ and a version of ‘The Rising Dragon’ with Marc Hudson. The lead singer of power metal band DragonForce.

This just craves for more. Not only for studio material, but also for a live show. They already have 3 studio albums, so for those of you who haven’t heard about Gyze yet, there is enough to keep yourself busy for now. For those who already know Gyze, you will have to be patient and wait for the full-length album to come out.
