Infernal Execrator – Obsolete Ordinance

/ / By :

Before I get started on this raw review let me introduce you guys to this blasphemous bunch: They unleashed their profane black / death metal magic anno 2005 (Or as they like to call it themselves: “Pure Irreligious Black Death Execration”) and started out as a three-piece. Back in those days that line-up was Lord Ashir (guitars & vox), Afreet (guitars & bass) and Belial Hatehammer (drums). With this formation they recorded one hell of a debut demo called “Thy Demonization Conquers”, be sure to check it out because it is truly a great one! After some changes in band members, two EP’s, three split releases and one compilation album they released their first full length called Ad Infinitum Satanic Adherent and now four years later this masterpiece Obsolete Ordinance. The current line-up is Halphas D. Nihilist (guitars), Christslaughter (drums), Kommando Antichristo (bass) and Lord Ashir (guitars & vox) as the founder and originator of the band. As you can see by their nicknames, Infernal Execrator ain’t nuthin’ ta fuck with, and Obsolete Ordinance can only confirm that last comment.

Aaaah death metal, a grotesque form of art that spawned out of the beauty that is thrash metal, same goes for second wave black metal. And when you mix those two together, you get something really special: Abhorer, Necroholocaust, Impiety, Obeisance, Blasphemy, Goat Semen, to name just a few… It’s a subgenre that can be brought in such an intense and brutal way, it deserves so much credit! And Infernal Execrator is no exception! Throughout the years they summoned their own perverse black / death and yes even thrash metal KVLT, and this last album is just spitting it right into your face. The sound is tight yet rude, perfected yet chaotic (in a Beherit kind of way) and the whole thing has enough anti-Christianity to make any priest cough up black blood and jump off the highest cathedral in sight.

Obsolete Ordinance starts out with an interlude that doesn’t quite amuse me, a poor shame because I like it when an intro can make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up (Silvester Anfang on Deathcrush from Mayhem for example! EPIC!). Instruments kick in on a mid-tempo which makes you assume you’re dealing with a Nifelheim kind of black / thrash band, but then the next drum line kicks in, and boy oh boy let me tell you, it’s OVERWHELMING! Christslaughter is literally pounding the drums as if his life fucking depends on it, I mean it literally sounds like a kalasjnikov going off RIGHT next to your eardrums, very heavy! In Northern Superiority they show us that they can also thrash it up, and I also hear some heavy metal influences in Incinerate Halakhah Theorem and the title track, by that I mean in the guitars NOT the drums haha. Best song in my eyes is definitely Scions of Irreverent Bloodshed, it just cuts through you like a chainsaw!

One thing you can definitely hear is that Watain is a main influence for this band, also for some reason I think of Nefarium when I’m listening their war metal, but mostly Watain. Also maybe because of the fact that they mixed and mastered Obsolete Ordinance in Necromorbus Studio, the same place where Watain recorded pretty much all their stuff. It is a little bit of a downer, I mean it’s still a lot faster than last mentioned band, but still… Anyhow this is for sure my album of the month! Definitely a band to keep your eye on, lots of possession… um I mean potential… Lord Ashir screams his lungs out like there’s no tomorrow and they all play guitars so fast that I could swear I could hear their fingers bleeding. This is definitely a must-have for every old school, bullet belt, patch jacket, white sneakered thrash / black / death metalhead. Cover artwork has been done by Indonesian illustrator Jenglot Hitam (Impiety, Zubirun,…) and looks fucking sick!! Make sure to check out his other drawings, he’s really talented. And as Obsolete Ordinance tunes out you hear troops marching and guns blazing, it’s clear, Infernal Execrator conquered, they won. This 34:36min war against Christianity is over, or has it just begun? This is black / death metal the way it is meant to be!! I’m looking forward to their next full-length!
