Marianas Rest unveil new lyric video for ‘Rat In The Wall’ featuring Okko Solanterä

Doom Metal, Melodic Death Metal

Finnish doom-laden death metal force MARIANAS REST have unveiled a brand new lyric video for “Rat In The Wall”, featuring guest vocals by Okko Solanterä (Horizon Ignited), taken from their latest studio album “The Bereaved”, which was released in January via Noble Demon.

Following the album’s success, “The Bereaved” entered Finland’s physical album charts at number three, marking MARIANAS REST’s fourth consecutive Top 10 release. After an extensive Finnish tour and a run through major Central European cities, the band now return with the new lyric video while preparing for upcoming festival appearances.

See Marianas Rest at the following festivals in Finland:
11.7. Kotka, Dark River Festival
17.7. Laukaa, John Smith Rock Festival
14.8. Tampere, Saarihelvetti

Blending crushing heaviness with their trademark melancholic atmosphere, “Rat In The Wall” showcases MARIANAS REST’s ability to fuse bleak intensity with haunting melodic depth.

MARIANAS REST comment on the songwriting process behind the track:

“Rat in the wall was one of those very classic Marianas Rest writing processes. Demoing tons of different melodies, harmonies and instrument-layers and playing around with different ideas. Finally, when the time came to actually finalize the song, it was mostly about picking what combinations of melodies and passages to use to create the right atmosphere. The intro of the song is quite unusual and atypical for us, and it came to be messing around with the feedback knobs on a delay pedal while recording. We thought it sounded cool.“

Vocalist Jaakko Mäntymaa shares insight into the lyrical theme of the song:

“If you have ever tried to save someone from themselves, you probably get what this song is about. Sometimes it can be done, sometimes not. Always worth the effort though. We wrote the lyrics together with Okko Solanterä (Horizon Ignited, I Am The Night, Slaughterror). We were so much on the same page that the whole process was almost automatic. The struggle is real and I think you hear it in the song.“

Tracklist:
01. Thank You for the Dance
02. Rat in the Wall
03. Divided
04. Again into the Night
05. Burden
06. Diamonds in the Rough
07. Pity the Living

10. The Colour of You

From the dark shores of the Baltic Sea, MARIANAS REST channel the deep melancholy of their homeland. Hailing from the southeastern Finnish town of Kotka, the band was formed in 2013 and has since become a powerful force in the world of melancholic death metal.

Their music is heavy and unhurried, blending elements of doom, death, and post-metal into a sound that is both crushing and beautiful. MARIANAS REST don’t just write songs – they createmoods: haunting, immersive, and emotionally devastating. A journey into darkness that, strangely, feels both familiar and comforting.

The band’s fifth full-length, “The Bereaved”, is a deeply personal tale of death and the many forms in which the end may appear. We meet these Finnish axemen in the midst of memorial, tortured by those do’s or don’ts of individuals left behind, even though some indeed pity the living and envy the dead. At such times, who is more blessed, the deceased or the bereaved?

Again, just like on their previous albums, the melodies are the key for an unique soundtrack for the ongoing struggle against the black clouds that seem to gather around us all every now and then.

When it comes to MARIANAS REST’s music, sometimes slow, deep and hard, on some occasions a bit faster and aggressive attacks, it sure does include that x-factor of Finnish DNA, that embraces melancholy and beauty on such level that makes one’s hair stand every single time.
