Pollyanna unleashed new single and video ‘Mars’ from upcoming album ‘Slime’

NJ punk band Pollyanna has unleashed their aggressive new single and music video “Mars.” The video was directed and edited by Connor Meany, with Director of Photography Kieth Glidewell. “Mars” is the latest from the band’s forthcoming album Slime, set to be released on June 17th via I Surrender Records.

Shares vocalist Jill Beckett (she / they):

“’Mars’ is a very situational song, however the main idea of this song is about being around fake people or friends, or just a very anxiety inducing environment such as a party or a basement show where you just feel completely alone even though you’re surrounded by so many people. I wrote Mars after going through a really horrifying experience that had me hanging out with all of the wrong people who were always super ingenuine, judgemental, two faced and mainly cared about hierarchy. The song really touches a lot on having social anxiety at a show or party with really judgemental people and using substances and drugs to cope with those feelings. I feel like the music to the song is also really angry because I was getting so tired of constantly being around such fake people that I always felt I had to watch my back while caring too much about what they thought about me. Writing this song was my breaking free from the care, the worry, the fear of judgment and just getting away from it all.”

Fans can expect more music soon, and look forward to seeing new songs live later this year as Pollyanna hits the road with Forever Came Calling. Pollyanna is a four piece band from New Jersey composed of lead vocalist and guitarist Jill Beckett, percussionist Daniel McCool, bassist Brandon Bolton, and guitarist Jack Rose. With sounds of power-pop, loud rock, bubble grunge, and punk influences, their name is directly derived from the dictionary definition, “to be unreasonably or illogically optimistic” – perfectly describing front-person Jill Beckett’s ‘stuck in 2017’ incredibly optimistic attitude.

After meeting in the first grade, Dan and Jill started the band at just 13 years old, eager to create and play music that would reach audiences beyond the confines of Jill’s open garage doors. Brandon made them a trio in early 2019, bringing 90’s femme punk influence to the group. At the start of 2021, Jack completed the bands’ lineup, adding his elemental stabby guitars and love for shoegaze and metal into the mix.

After completing almost 5 tours around the east coast and the midwest, Pollyanna has won over a following in the New Jersey music scene along with cities in the tri-state and beyond. They plan on leaving a unique mark in the music industry.
