Brightshade release single ‘Modern Horrors’ via Year Of The Rat Records
Brightshade isn’t just a new arrival; they are a new save file for the alternative metal scene. Launching in 2026, the band bridges the gap between the raw, rhythmic energy of the nu-metal era and the sleek, cinematic production of the current heavy alternative landscape. Their sound is a calculated balance of heavy and haunting, with fresh and the uncanny, merging down-tuned grooves with an atmosphere that feels pulled straight from a psychological thriller.

The first few singles for Brightshade are designed as an immersive experience. Eschewing typical dark tropes, the band leans into the fun when it needs to be, but ultimately they’re here to make serious music for anyone who’s felt angry, confused, scared, or forgotten about – through subtle references to their favourite hobbies, films, and games.
The coming months mark the rollout of a meticulously crafted audiovisual campaign – stories told and concepted at the earliest point of writing the song, with the lyrics having meaning simultaneously with the instruments. From the tension of their melodic hooks to the high-stakes intensity of their short and sweet breakdowns, Brightshade is building a world that invites fans to do more than just listen – they’re invited to explore and join in the angst.
Brightshade now release their fifth single ‘Modern Horrors’ on the 16th October 2026 via UK label Year Of The Rat Records after early support from Kerrang, Metal Injection, Dreambound, Knotfest, BBC, Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL and Pandora. The band recently announced they will be playing RADAR Festival 2027 too.
Brightshade – “‘Modern Horrors’ is a cry for help against the looming horrors of our world. The singer (Dan) points the finger at others and himself, confessing their part in the spiral towards destruction. Though we see global issues everyday, we all take part in locking ourselves away from confronting them. “We’re running to our graves, that wait inside our rooms”. From war, AI and injustices in the world, we all play our part in turning our eyes away. “We’ll take it” and keep “dancing to our graves”. Modern Horrors is a statement on the singer’s internal battle and how cynical he feels about the future of the world. What comes next?”
